Second reinstallation?
For the second time this week, I am unable to play the game because it is patching itself. On both occasions, the actual download is small (less than 600MB) but the computer then needs to spend 45 minutes sorting out all of the files before it’s usable again.

Why does it do this? No other Steam game does, or at least none I have ever played.

For the avoidance of doubt, it isn’t downloading anything at all right now. It’s working its way slowly and painfully through the entire 56.8GB installation… doing what? Checking that the files it downloaded before are still there?

How much free empty space do you have on the drive?

A lot of games these days patch themselves by downloading the patch, then making a copy of the game, applying the patch to the copy and then deleting the original files.

That is why you need at least as much empty space on your drive as the largest game installed on it. But SSD's should have some extra empty space anyways as the more the drive gets filled up the slower it becomes.

If there is not enough of this empty space, Steam might try to rearrange the files to make enough space and this can take a long time. For me the patches are installed in under a minute on my 2TB M.2 Nvme SSD.

i agree its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I agree, this seems to be the only game I have where it takes the most brute-force approach to a relatively small patch. You'd think a AAA company would be a little more on the ball.

Sane thing happening here, I do have more than x2 disk space but it's still trying to download the whole thing... HALP!!

I did think so, but not anymore. I bought this because I love Marvel and XCOM. I thought the game would be handled well like XCOM 2--then realized I was comparing a game that had been out for years to a new release... I think I need to wait a year after release, minimum, for AAA titles now, and support more indie devs who actually take their craft seriously.

Same, stuck at 558.8 / 558.8 MB and 25.4 / 56.8 GB. Last time I had to uninstall and reinstall, I guess it's the same this week.

I have over 500 GB free space on my nvme ssd and it's been stuck at 56% for the last 20 minutes. I had to uninstall and reinstall the game the last time there was an update because after two hours it never finished. If I have to do that again I'm uninstalling and will be done with this game. No other games that I play are like this.

FIX IT!!!

On Epic it's downloading from scratch the whole game, no 600mb patch... 56.9gb download. 🤦‍♂️

Did it to me, but had the same with other game like 2 month ago (total war warhammer III) so maybe it's steam cause i got plenty space on my 2 SSD and it works fine with games.

If files have been corrupted during the download/update and it's stuck because of that, clearing the Steam download cache usually fixes this problem.

This is sooo awesome.
Does anyone have a fix yet?

I also had to re-install but after seeing how long the patch would take (literal hours), annoying but re-installing took 25 minutes versus the 4 hours the patch would've taken. I seriously hope to not do this again next patch
