Captain Marvel Sucks Rant (extremely minor spoiler)

Dear Disney/Marvel: please stop with Captain Marvel. She is annoying, arrogant and not even well-liked by most people in her current persona. The fact that so many supernatural superheroes were put on the sidelines for Captain Freaking Marvel hurts my brain. The fact I'm forced to interact with her so many times in the first act of the game and she has more game-time than the majority of the Midnight Suns makes me feel like clawing my skin.

In the first gameplay hours of this game, all I hear is how good and awesome and great and powerful Captain Marvel is whenever her name comes up, even when she's talking about herself. Guess who Deadpool fanboys over in the first part of his DLC? That's right...Captain Marvel...after which she brags about herself to him...there's more in the base game story but I don't want to get into spoilers for people who just bought it. If you removed her from the game nothing would be lost. Everything she does could easily be replaced by Tony. We could have had Moon Knight, Werewolf-By-Night, or some other supernatural hero but...we get Captain Bragsalot.

Edit: I edited this last section because I can't delete this thread. I am tired of this thread and all the psychos that keep calling me sexist or a bigot just because I disliked a character that happened to be female.

In further news, I got used to her after a while, after the 3rd act she becomes a lot less insufferable, mostly because people aren't gushing over her every second and she has a chance to actually be a character and not a Mary Sue. But oh my gosh the first 2 acts. Anyways...if you're here to call me sexist for whatever reason your deluded mind tells you to, at least think logically about why someone would dislike this character OUTSIDE of just hating women...just really think about it, put yourself in the shoes of someone who dislikes a character, genuinely, and don't assume its because of any sort of bigotry...just try really hard...please...because these comments are tiring.

Also if you are going to complain about something I have said PLEASE look at the context of why I said it and WHO I was responding to and WHY the topic was brought up in the first place. Thank you.

She really doesn't stfu about how "awesome" she is. When you begin to befriend her, she literally whines about how being the greatest anything at everything always and forever is tough. And then she continues to whine about how awesome she is. Yeah, what a curse. Who is supposed to relate to her, exactly?

Exactly this. So annoying. I hope one day she becomes a C-Level hero again and stops appearing in everything.

Captain Marvel's writing was as mediocre as anyone else's but I thought she was one of the more relatable characters. She wasn't bragging about herself, she's just matter-of-fact about being the current canonically all-around strongest Avenger. She is also situationally great gameplay-wise at medium difficulties.

She is only canononically the strongest avenger in the MCU and that is because that went all in on the whole girl power thing (and even then they are playing with Scarlet Witch being stronger than her in MCU)

When I think of strongest Avengers I think Hulk, Thor, heck I'm sure with enough prep time Ant-Man could beat Captain Marvel in a fight, he's pretty smart and her durability isn't on a Hulk-level so she's pretty beatable. Honestly the whole "strongest avenger" thing is just Marvel constantly promoting her to try and make people like her. I like all the people in Midnight Suns with the exception of her.

You can skip most of the dialogue with Carol if you can't really stand her and still get all the stats and bonuses for her from the interactions. No one is forcing you to listen to every single piece of the conversations in the game.

Yeah, she's definitely much more likable than the MCU Carol, and written much better than Carol was at her worst in the comics too.

The Captain Marvel incarnation is the most interesting version of Carol Danvers by far, and personally, I think this game's interpretation of her was WAAAAAY better than the MCU version.

I made Carol my first target for best friend status because I legitimately enjoyed the conversations with her (OK, I also wanted to push the Blade romance, I admit it). As you might tell from my avatar and handle, Steve Rogers is my #1 Marvel hero. But this version of Steve was too square for my taste.

Also, it might not make you happy, but it's pretty well-established canonically that Carol's power level as Captain Marvel is on par with Thor's. And just as the character mentions in this game, they both acknowledge Hulk is another step up, so they argue with each other about which of them is #2.

At the end of the day, the game did a great job of giving us lots of personalities to interact with and its good that we like some and hate others. I am bored silly of the Robert Downey Jr Tony Stark, but it would be goofy to think that because I personally am sick of him Firaxis should have put in Beta Ray Bill instead.

Comic Book Lore that is not the case...
Hulk, Thor, and Scarlet Witch are stronger than Captain Marvel...

and that is just BASE Thor, Rune King Thor, is superior to her by a huge margin (even in binary form)

In MCU Captain Marvel is stronger than everyone but scarlet witch, at least that is what they have implied so far...

It's funny, for me she's pretty much my favorite character in the game. I haven't even read her comics or seen the movie, but I like using her in battles and enjoyed interactions with her more than basically anyone. If anything I could've used less Tony being snarky

Carol is fine here. She's also fine in the MCU, though a little undercooked (I'm hoping she gets a bit more fleshed out in The Marvels).

I get the impression that a lot of folks don't like Carol because she's stronger than some boy superheroes and isn't especially humble about it. Humility would be out of character, though; she's a fighter jockey at heart, and we don't expect the Top Gun, Maverick, to go around talking about how he ISN'T the best.

I have not seen a single person care at all that she's a woman. A feminist glorification of a jackass? Sure. But not a woman. There's many reasons I don't like Captain Marvel, so many that making a list would be too long but in the shortest way I can present:

To me Captain Marvel isn't a hero. She's a false facsimile of one. Someone who pretends to be a hero for her own ego and wanting to be constantly right. For the praise of "yes I'm the best, yes look at me, yes I'm right". You might say "well Tony is the same thing". Right, but Tony knows his faults and works on them. He has past problems that cause him to be that way and every time he messes up he tries his best to fix it. With Captain Marvel its just "I'm the best, I'm so powerful, no one is better than me, look how cool I am, you like me, right?" At least that's how Marvel presents her by ALWAYS trying to make her look powerful no matter what. No one likes a character who's only fault is "I can beat everyone and that makes me sad". The OLD Captain Marvel (Ms Marvel) is a different story. But the new one just isn't a hero to me. She even MURDERED Tony in the comics because she refused to hold back even a little, and got 2 others killed, and not only was everyone ok with it, she got a promotion from it. This is after kidnapping random civilians and illegally imprisoning them. And this is Marvel's "best" hero who never makes any comic book sales. Part of why she's unlikable in the comics is because she isn't a hero, or even an anti-hero. She's a straight up villain posing as a hero a lot of the time and Marvel thinks she's some holy grail of feminist iconography to bring in sales. I'm not sure if it was her or female Thor that beat someone up for not being a feminist, it was one of them. She even has a whole superhero CREATED around her who's sole purpose of existence is to be her fangirl. And, yes, there is also the political forced diversity angle but for the sake of not letting ww3 happen I won't talk about it. Heroes are meant to fight for morals, for a just cause. Even Punisher fights for that reason. With Captain Marvel all I see is "I fight because Marvel put me here and wants me to be a thing so I gotta" and its just kind of jarring and takes you out of it whenever you interact with her in the game and see her bragging about herself or have everyone compliment and fanboy over her. There are so many better female heroes to focus on its just a shame that she gets the most focus out of all of them.

Although, if you like her, that's fine. I don't.
