Out of Video Memory Error ?
I just purchased the game, and completed the tutorial. However, when it loads to the next area, I am assuming the abbey. The game crashes and I get this message "out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource" I have never had this happen with any other game. I even tried lowering the graphics from Epic to High, and the game crashed with the same message again at the same spot.

Does anyone know of a solution? And I am using an RTX 2070 if that helps.

Thanks!

Would just try the basics:

Check drivers are up to date, verify files, clean out Steam cache and shader cache and reacquire. Try forcing DX11 and see if that helps.

2k support is here: https://support.2k.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=5948100264979

You're not the only one who has mentioned this issue but I've not seen anyone say if/how they've got it sorted out.

Uninstall the launcher, make sure RTX is turned off, possibly lower your settings even a bit more, and try it again.

This game is unoptimized pretty heavily, the RTX is basically unusable, the Launcher is a massive resource hog, and the Denuvo is a massive system resource drag.

It is definitely possible to get this game to run well on your aystem though. Sadly with 4080s releasing, a 2070 just ain't what it used to be.

I already tried the other steps, but I didn't try to force DX11. So I tried that this time, and it worked without a problem. So at least for me, that's the solution. Thanks!

Glad you got it sorted.

For anyone who uses search, finds this, and doesn't know how to force DX11:
Open Steam Library and right click on the game and select Properties.
Click on the General tab and in the launch options add -d3dx11

Definitely weird - I use a 3080ti and it's absolutely fine. Could punt it to 2k and ask them what's going on? ( https://support.2k.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=5948100264979 )

At a guess, if it were me, I'd suspect something silly like redistributables needing updating or something along those lines.

Yeah, I have a 13900K, 32GB ddr5, 3080 FTW... I do run it on a Odyssey G9, wonder if maybe they have issues with 5K or not, but I just had another crash trying it windowed at 2K.

There's also resizable BAR support which you could download from Nvidia and update your GPU's firmware with that, then enable this feature in your BIOS if you have not already done so. Could fix your issue.

The issue is the game not your hardware
Hi there. This issue is related to Unreal Engine. Most motherboard bios have had recent update released where you can enable ‘Intel Default Setting’ should fix this issue for you.

Isn't there an issue with the 13900's that have a problem with volting and cooling or is that just the 14900k? Mother board manufactures have send out messages about the issue are are working on BIOS updates for it. I could swear the 13900's have the same issue, but it's not as prominent due to the chip running slightly cooler.

The root cause of instability primarily experienced on Intel 13900K and 14900K processors, according to RAD, is a hardware issue that can lead to "Oodle Data decompression failures" or crashes in games built with the Unreal engine. A small fraction of the mentioned CPUs may exhibit this unpredictable behavior under heavy computing loads, which seems to be triggered by a combination of BIOS settings, high CPU clock rates, and power usage.

Out of virtual memory issue mean...out of VIRTUAL memory issue.

It's not a hardware issue, it's a software issue.

Midnight Suns grab lot of virtual memory to work properly, you need to increase your virtual memory in your windows settings.

Use sysdm.cpl command in the windows box (windows key + R key).

And follow this steps :

https://support.esri.com/en-us/knowledge-base/increase-virtual-memory-beyond-the-recommended-maximum--000011346

For my config, i've two ssd drive,

One for windows, 120 gb, with 13 gb virtual memory allocated on it.
Second for my games, 1 Tb, with a virtual memory buffer set between 20 and 50 gb for the range.

It will increase the stability and the load screen game time.

On my side, the game take quickly between 15 to 30 gb of virtual memory, so if your virtual memory isn't correctly set, this will increase the load screen game time and the game can crash during theses load screen game.

You are a windows event due to this out of virtual memory issue (eventvwr command in the windows box, system section after).
You will see the programs which cause this type of issue due to a high virtual memory consumption.
For my, during my game, the two big programs with this type of consumption is my game first (midnight sun, 15 gb) and steam helper (linked to the midnight sun so, 15 gb too).

I launch the game in 4k with ultra settings in graphics for information

The issue with some Intel CPUs and Unreal Engine was wild (the error returned was 'Out of Virtual Memory', as most will know.)

https://wccftech.com/unreal-engine-discloses-50-percent-failure-rate-intel-core-i9-14900k-13900k-cpus/

Should have been fixed by bios updates by now though? So always something just to check if it's a persistent issue and someone has a CPU which is known to have had the problem.

I've been having the same problem, so I tried the -d3dx11 option and now, instead of getting the out-of-video-memory error, I just get a black screen instead. (In both cases, it happens after the loading screen after the tutorial, like with the OP.) I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (which has 4GB video RAM, which supposedly meets the game's requirements) on a Windows 10 machine.
