Hunter customization
Hi, I was wondering, do you ever reach a point where you can customise Hunter's abilitie or something like that (not switching cards) but outright change his ''super powers'' to something that suits the character we wanted to create? Because I don't hate it atm, but will admit that the dual dagger wielding healer was not the kind of character I was hoping to ''be''. Even some animations for the abilities don't really fit the character I was trying to ''create''. I thought that since we could customise the appearance, gender and even ethnicity of our character, that we might also be able to choose what kind of power they have. And if not, I personally think it would've been better to just have a pre-made main character that better fit the vision.

Short answer is no. You have Dark, Light and Attack trees. You always use double blades, but you do have some control over the visuals of those weapons.

And I disagree wholeheartedly about pre-made characters. Making my own hunter really sells it to me. And you can do a bit with visual style to make them your own

That's a shame. I still like the game and this is just a nit pick, it was more that the abilities and animations feels more like the character is a kind of ''dex/agility'' kind of hero. Like when I started the game and saw I could create my character, I thought I was gonna be able to really ''role-play'' (in the limits of our character being a magic based hero). So to then get further in game and seeing that you're character's weapons and powers are pretty much pre-defined, felt contradictory (for me) I'd even say that some abilities animations feels gendered, like, it looks like The Hunter is canonically a woman, which is fine and cool, but if tried to create a more ''masculine'' man and he does a twirl when healing, it kind of breaks the feeling of creating your own character. I personally would've preferred if our hero was a pre-made character that really has they're own art direction. since when faced with the limits of the character's customization, it kind of breaks immersion imo. But that's mainly because I'm used to RPGs with deep character creation and customization, so it's mainly my own biases getting in the way of fully enjoying it.

yeah..I mean.I'm happy where I am, and knew what I was going to get. It's basically an RPG, so other than complaining it doesn't have enough customization, I dunno what the issue is.

Ho don't worry, it's just me being nit picky, I'm like 20 hours in and love it alot. I like all the characters, even those I normally don't really fancy. I was kinda sad that our ghost rider wasn't Johnny Blaze, but I'm getting to know the new one and he's really growing on me. And Magik is my favorite. Great game so far!

I didn't really like his magical whip or dual swords either, but they clearly made Hunter into the character they wanted but allowed us to slightly customize his/her look.

Not fully sure about the take on Hunter being a dex/agility kind of archetype - a light hunter with heal and fortify and guarding blade (? the block one anyway) has a real paladin off-tank feel to how they play in spite of having two swords and a whip ability. Although a dark hunter with conceal on kills and annihilation does more line up with the idea of a glass cannon assassin archetype.

All the same, I'd love to have more abilities, more animations (give patience a decent one while they're at it), and which hook up to changing Hunter's weapons choices. Obviously see why it is how it is, but there's plenty of room there for expansion on every character's deck even Hunter's.

I can see where you're coming from with the paladin analogy, I even kind of agree with you. But it still feels like you're ''stuck'' with either a kind of ''support'' (the paladin side, since alot of the abilities are mainly buffs, heals or support) or ''rogue'' assassin. I don't hate it. I normally like the rogue assassin kind of character and now that I'm leaning more into I'm even enjoying it. But if I could make ''one wish'' it'd be that Hunter has enough possible diversity to pretty much be ''whatever'' we'd like. Like choosing what weapon we use, more ability diversity, more armour types. Again, just a pet peeve, I'm just used to rpgs that goes deeper in character creations and all.

Definitely agree with your broader points because this is such a weird (for Western games) straddling of genres.

Do hope we see at least some broadening out of Hunter's deck over time, even if the challenge would be to make Hunter feel like they're bringing something no other hero replicates.

My ideal would be to really lean into the background story and have a debuffing/dps set of cards which add a late 17th century firearm to Hunter's repetoire. (And yes I'll steal the Musketeer from Darkest Dungeons if needed!)
