Uh, yeah. Those are Forge Challenges.
Sure, but these particular puzzles I'm referring to don't really add anything to the game that I see. They seem out of place. It's like Tetris: put these piece here, move this piece here, etc.
I think both of these points are less absolutes and up to personal definitions. And that's fine.
That's a given, from my perspective. It's all about what each person likes or doesn't like. I just don't happen to like this kind of activity in a game.
Agreed
There are a couple of exceptions, which are the ones that have random information that is fixed by a seed and hidden from the player. I think there's two challenges like this, where you have to draw or redraw cards from the deck and the optimal solution relies on knowing what these cards are, which is only possible via save scumming. That's poor design.
On the flip side I thought the threat room challenges (or whatever its called) were a lot of fun.
I agree with all you said. I enjoy the T.H.R.E.A.T. room as a way of easily leveling up characters, but I just simply don't like the puzzles, even if they are simple. For me, it just takes me out of the flow of the game. There are other games out there that are all about puzzle-solving, and I don't play those because I don't like puzzles. I barely tolerate them in RPGs. They often just seem gratuitous.
The rewards are nice, so I did them anyway, but I'd rather get back to the missions.
