His quick attacks are great and he works well with the hunter, in both directions. The Hunter has the Deadly Ground card to generate more environmental hazards (in addition to those maps which have rifts which naturally regenerate) meaning that you can't ever strictly run out of environment damage. Spiderman has the Thwip card which can set up the Hunter's Merciless+ card reliably, the only better alternative to which is Doctor Strange's Crimson Bands of Cyttorak card.
Having easy access to a free strengthen is great too, and the bonus moves he generates combine with his knockbacks to make it easy to get an extra card or two into hand by knocking foes into allies.
He does lack a real single target heavy hitter, but most characters do have weaknesses they look to their teammates to cover, so he's not totally atypical that way.
Overall I think Spiderman is probably a little below average on the higher difficulties, at least once the best elements of the environment are consumed. But the battles are often mostly won by then anyway, so it's not that pronounced.
Generally, I find he excels at clearing out the 0 point enemies and debuff/chip damage on larger things which includes using his environmental skills. That first one for free is very sweet if you can knock a few enemies together underneath something hanging from the ceiling (and that does do a lot of damage!).
He can pull a lot of cards to hand quite quickly and then legendary allows them to be used for free with heroism generated from his quicks. I have some resist on redraw for him because he's not going to facetank much of anything and tend to prefer having some form of taunt on another hero or on an item to help with that.

(I used Thwip! with Light Hunter for breaking protection, but found it redundant with how I'd built my Dark Hunter with Mindbender.)
If you bring hunter, make sure the double heroism earned card is with you. Spider-man is such a beast with this combo. With marked and chain strikes you never run out of things to do.
