I agree. Only things I get from chests now are credits, gloss, and the very occasional combat item at the tier of the chest. If you are that invested in the Abbey/social side that you're opening lots of chests then you'll not run out of keys for very long. I did once miss bell day though.
There simply isn't enough content in the boxes anyway. I was getting the Midnight Suns colour changes from common boxes all day long as that was all I had left to unlock.
And the few times you do get new things it's as likely to be from common as from Legendary chests.
Basically, I get 20-30 gloss or credits per chest so I just stopped opening them unless I run past them anyway on my way to talk to someone =)
I didn't open any white chest until I got the perk to make them free and frequently ran out of keys. It depends how many sidequests you do and at what stage you unlock the full abbey grounds.
There's actually mission secondaries which reward them for an intel cost too.
