Do Room Upgrades do anything?

Does upgrading your room have any benefits that I do not know about? Is it just cosmetic?

Well you have achievements for decorating

It looks nicer and not like they just emptied out the utility chamber so you got a place to live. I mean, why sleep on the default bed when you can spend the night in a noble bed and even pick the curtain color for it? Charlie gets a better bed too. And you can plaster all the walls with fake art or self made comic book covers. Furthermore decorating your room is a great way to ease the burden of carrying gloss around with you.

So the answer is none. Its all purely cosmetic :D
