Custom Photos Suck: Am I doing it wrong?

When I make a photo into a portrait and stick them in a frame they look terrible. Grainy, discolored, and often with a heavy black lower border so they dont even fit the frames right.

Am I screwing it up or is it just badly implemented?

The small tabletop frames have some poor filter on them almost as if the glass is covered in dust but for larger painting frames it looks okay for me, do keep in mind that you can zoom and reposition photos to get rid of the black borders, I don't remember the default key for this though but mess around.

Edit: Got it. It's when you actually place the photos in a frame. I thought it would be in super link.

Still the image quality is poor and the colors are off

yes that is the reason i would rather just remove some nice paintings from the abbey and use it on hunter's room
