I can't seem to be able to upgrade my castle further than wood house.

I got up to the wood house. It's day XIII. I got 2 catapults and watch towers lvl2. Then nothing upgrades ...
I can't figure out why.

Find the wood shrine. It's hidden either on the left or right side, it's random.

yeah it looks like a little church or something. feed it some gold and you can unlock stone+knights

I like to call it the mason monument, since it has the mason symbol. :P

Found it. It was waaaay out there, behind an active portal! I would have never figured that one out lol.
