The Crown is safe! (Overall impressions)
So, today I managed to beat Kingdom after many bone head mistakes and poor money management on my part. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=541988242

Here's my overall impressions.

1.) Though the game is a lot of fun, I feel that it's biggest weakness is lack of diversity in strategy. If you decide to take your time to build and slowly cultivate your land, chance are you're going to die pretty early. If you don't have easy access to farms and buffs, chance are you're going to die.

2.) You're at the mercy of the procedurally generated map. Not once did I ever have a session where any of the buff statues were before a portal. I always had to venture out far in order to pay my coin and come back. This also affects base defense.

Base defense is a very frustrating thing because you have no control over it. If I can't get at the very minimum a wall near my farm, then I can't upgrade it because the famers will sit there and get massacred while my AI stays closer to camp.

So I'd have to chop down a whole bunch of trees, but if there's a camp nearby. Well I obviously don't want to lose my camp or my peasants so I just leave the farm at level 1. That way the farmers will go back to base. (I still won the game ironically but it was a little annoying not to be able to upgrade.)

3.) When you start rolling in coins, it gets a little underwhelming not to be able to spend it on anything. You'd think "Great, now with all this money I can expand west and east and chop down trees and build walls." But that's a very bad strategy and one that will cost you resources in terms of deer, rabbits, and peasants. Then you would become entirely dependent on farms and if God forbid a wave sneaks past your guards, you are toast.

I used to think the AI was dumb but that's actually not the case, the AI is simply very specific. I would get pissed off when I'd watch farmers at my level 2 farm stay at the farmhouse not realizing that it was intended that way. Once I figured out that the AI was basically like an ON/OFF switch, that's when the game made more sense to me.

Hunters will go out a certain range from your base, shoot an animal, COLLECT THE COIN if the king hasn't done so, then resume hunting.

Builders will designate the closest builder to start construction of your tower. If there are no other projects along and there are free builders, more builders will join to speed up construction.

But what's frustrating about the AI is that it won't adapt or think. If the wall goes down on one side of your base. Your archers and workers won't retreat, they will stand there and allow themselves to get massacred. The worst part is, unless you hired hundreds of units, that clump of units will also possibly contain your resources like farmers and hunters.

So once a flank of your castle gets wiped, unless you have the coin saved up that can usually be a crippling blow to your kingdom.

Even if you get down to one portal that's on the East. Do you think archers and knights on the west will join in the fight? No. They'll maintain guard on the west side even when there is no threat available.

Regardless, the game is very fun and I'd like to play another to see if I can still win with my current strategy.

If I had a wish list it would be:

-Campaign. Would love to have a campaign of some sort so I could become ruler of the land and the difficulty scales up within reason.

-More content. Inns, mounted units, ballistas. I'd love to see more varieties in units and enemy units which need to be countered appropriately.

-More upgrades. Boiling oil poured from the walls, ability to create a 2nd camp to expand your kingdom, permanent upgrades that could be researched with a blacksmith.

This was definitely a fun game and I love the style, I hope it continued to grow in a positive direction.
