The horse is too slow vs the kingdom size.
Your kingdom constantly increases in size and the place you hire villagers from grows furthur and furthur, by three weeks in you simply cant recruit many villergers because it takes the whole day to traverse your kingdom. Please make a road system or a fast travel system (Perhaps you can teleport to differnt guard towers) A map would also be nice.

You could also make the horse upgradable at some sort of a stable building so we can get faster horses with quicker stamina regeneration.

Are you talking about before or after the first patch? They just released it, have you downloaded it yet? I haven't played it yet but improving the horse's stamina is listed as one of the balance tweaks they made.

Horse is not too slow anymore. The engine is too slow for the horse now. #lag

Sorry but horse still to slow. Takes a day and a half to get to the other side. Its a freaking horse. I agree with a horse stable to upgrade your horse.

Ever thought that your kingdom might be unnecessarily large? ;)
It's tempting to expand, I know. The trick is though to expand only as far as necessary.

Perfect kingdom size:
right: don't expand at all.
left: restart map until you have a farm close by. Expand slightly beyond that farm and fortify. 1 farm is enough, if a second spot in close to that you can also expand that much further.
That's it, keep it small.

Any strategy that depends on restarting until the RNG favors you is scumming, and any game that requires scumming to be played enjoyably is broken.

It surely is. However, what are you going to do if either occurs:
a) no farm spot anywhere close (tried such game once, I wasn't able to sustain a functioning economy). Fortunately 90% of the time, there is a farm close enough.
b) the stone statue is behind a portal (which means probable death)

Both issues are bad game design and can put you into an unwinnable situation. Rather than wasting several hours or waiting for a patch, I prefer restarting.
It's not like I restart until I get a perfect layout, just a winnable one.

It can actually be done in half a day. You just need to feed your horse before running. :)

Let it idle a bit over a patch of green herb.

Different map different style. I already destroyed one portal on the left and it was only possible because i build near it and archers were idling nearby when i send my knights out. Also i dont need farms. I have survived one map without farms or farmers for a long time. You just need the forest in between your walls, deer and bunnies give plenty. Currently i do have farms though.

The horse is fine as it was and it now it's even faster with stamina buff.
Please devs don't make the horse too fast or do something other stupid with it like infinite stamina, instead do something like road upgrades (between walls or something?) or simply buff the horses speed and stamina slightly when inside the walls.

Sorry, but I kinda like being able to explore deep into the forest without it becoming a huge slog.

Oooh, that sounds highly logical. Does it work over water sources (the farming spots) as well? Horses gotta drink, too.

I never felt like it was a huge slog, but it should be possible to feed the horse in the forest as well, I mean.. it's a forest, there should be grass for the horse all over the place.
