Guide to killing all 4 portals.
I just "finished" the game by killing all 4 portals and figured i'd write short guide to help anyone who's struggling to do it.

I finished by around day 73. My basic strategy was to focus heavily on one side of the world first. Generally it seems like the right side has more camps close to your base, so usually you will want to focus on expanding left first. DO NOT chop the trees near the camps on the right. I did not chop any trees at all on the right until the entire left side including both left side portals were destroyed.

What you want to do is use the right side of the world as your population income. Camps seem to spawn one person per day and can only hold 2 people maximum. This means you will want to hire from every camp once every 2 days. POPULATION IS KEY to winning. You should be trying to hire everyone from every camps every 2 days throughout the game.

On day 1: I got 1 builder and 1 archer. Got two walls on either side of my base. Hopefully your archer will kill a rabbit or deer so you can get gold to hire from camps. On day 1 you want to explore the entire right side of the world up until the first portal. Hopefully there will be 2-3 camps on that side. Take note of shrines/merchants/stone upgrade shrine if you see them. Hire as many camp dwellers as possible on day 1.

Day 2: Get lots of bows and continue to hire from camps. You really only need 1-2 builders for the first 5 days or so.

Day 3-5: try to get the stone upgrade by day 5 and get stone walls on the right side of your base. There should be a wall with a tower just to the right of your scythe vendor. That wall/tower should be your line of defense for the right side for the entire game until you have finished clearing the left side. Do not expand past that wall. During day 3-5 you should try to chop wood to the left as much as possible without losing builders. Hopefully there will be a farm relatively close to your base.

Day 5-20: Continue expanding left. Try to get a tier 2 farm going with 3-4 scythe workers as early as possible to give you steady income. Continue hiring from camps at least every 2 days. By around day 20 you should be expanded almost up to the first portal on the left, and you should aim to have 2 fully worked tier 2 farms on the left side for income.

Killing portals: Portals are tricky to kill. The first portal you kill is relatively easier, the last 3 are all pretty hard. The way to deal with portals is to build one of the walls that are close to the portal and fully upgrade it, however you can't build a wall that is too close to the portal. If the wall is so close to the portal that your forward troops (the shield guys that stand outside your furthest wall) will attack the portal without you ordering them forward, then that wall is too far forward. Make sure the wall is far away enough so that your troops will not automatically wander into the portal constantly. If there is a guard tower anywhere near your forward wall or the portal itself, upgrade it to max, it will be extremely useful to kill the portal. In order to kill the portal you need to send your knights forward. Generally ou will lose your whole knight squad, but each time you will get a bit of damage off on the portal. Replenish your knights/archers, and do it again. For the last 2 portals this can take 5-10 knight squads before you finally kill the portal.

You should kill your first portal around day 25, the later ones are harder and take more time.

One more tip: Whenever you lose troops, in any situation, make sure you try to rehire them after the battle. Again, population is critical, and later in the game you will have very few camps to use, so make sure any troops that are wounded in a battle get rehired when it is safe. Population is always more important than tools.

How do you manage to reach the portals before get cought by the nightly waves if you don't shop the trees and sacrifice any settlements?
I can see that sacrificing all camps will run you dry on reinforcements, just happened to me. But leaving everything intact seems kind of hard.

^ This. It seems it should be doable to win one side but once you start expanding right how do you replenish your population? Those flyers absolutely destroy my people, they can't kill them fast enough.

I didn't really replenish it much. I had A LOT of population by that point though. I don't know exact numbers, but I did lose a good number of archers to fliers and still had more than enough to get by.

On my map there was 1 camp after the second portal on the left, but I probably only hired 6 total population from it because it was such a long ride to get to it and then back to the the front on the right that it wasn't really worth going to. The flyers are kind of a pain, but as long as you do a good job of rehiring the troops you lose to ground units, you should be fine.

Also I had A TON of archers so to be honest fliers weren't killing THAT many of my troops. A wave with 5 or so fliers probably only killed 2 or 3 archers before they were killed.

I did eventually chop the right side, just not in the early game. I left it completely untouched until I had destroyed both portals on the left, then I went back and chopped the right and expanded that way. I probably started chopping it around day 40 or 50 after I had destroyed the second left portal.

By the way. If you get a bad map you should probably just restart. You need at least 2 camps on the right before the first portal, but if it were me I'd probably restart until I got 3.

Its really cool that you managed to kill all portals. I just wonder what happened then? was there any video or ending? or do you just continue doing nothing, riding around?

Trying to kill all portals seems kinda boring, exploring and understanding the game, when you had no idea what to do was fun, but this...

Thanks for answer!

Got it day 15, did not expand beyond the nearest two farm lots toward one side while doing nothing but running back and forth (getting deer along the way) between camps and buying more bows.

The game ends with one last attack toward your base and after you win you get credits and a slow pan around your world, seing your peasants at work and all that, and the tattered flags of your last squad of knights to remind you of those that didn't make it ;_;

You won within 15 days? Holy s..t I'd say your dudes take 15 days just to cross the map from one end to the other :)

Kudos.

It takes rounghly a day and a half to get across the map, from your base to the portal, since your dudes will always die to the wave that comes out it really doesn't matter much and toy can replenish and send the next wave the moment the first has died (and the monsters have been slain)

As for the basic night monsters, two knights with a full squad can easily take out anything up to day 24 when nights start spawning bigger waves (minus of course the blood moon nights) You can generally attack right before or right after a blood moon for the best results (after is better as you'll have time to replenish for the monster counterattack)

One trick is pay attention for any parts of the forest that suddenly brighten and coin slots appear near trees and stuff. In one playthrough I found that I could build a wall passed a few encampments and after the night of a bloodmoon I quickly got to work and voila! Didn't need to bulldoze those camps.

I just upgrade to 2 walls each side, maxed out and just hire archers and builders. I haven't had a break through since the 50's and I got past 75 before losng crrown (by getting attacked while recruiting)
