Unit Definitions.
Yeah, the last time I played these games, like almost 20 years ago. I remember playing mostly the Allies because of the easier understanding of what the troops actually were and what their purpose was.
So, this time around I have extended my understanding of the german language, but I still fail to really understand how the Axis troops work. So some of the "aufklärung" (says "scout" but I reckon they're reconnoisance troops) can deal with armor, but some can't? Like whats the difference between panzeraufklärung and regular ones? And the pioneers, what's their purpose? Erzats? The "zug" part of some unit names, means "train", but I reckon it has something to do with "assault"?

A wiki on this would help tremendously.

There are several sources on the internet that can explain the German terminology. Here's one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_German_military_terms

You can also get a general idea of a team's capability on the Battle Group Screen in game. Select the team and look at the details on the lower left of the screen -- it will tell you the general type (infantry, AT gun, mortar, etc.) as well as list all the weapons within the team. This is one place where you can see if they have anti-armor weapons or not -- look for panzerfausts. You can also tell in-battle if a team has AT capability when you select it.

Zug is the German term for a Platoon or troop sized unit.

Panzeraufklärung is the term for armoured reconnaissance. A Panzer division has a Panzer Aufklärungabteilung, "Armoured Recconaissance Battalion". The Armoured Recconaissance Battalion of a Panzer Division would have more anti-armour capability than an Infantry Division's Recconaissance Battalion.

Pioneers are combat engineers and have demolitions capability and hold flamethrowers.

One of the best resources at your disposal in-game is the little AP/AT display that shows the effectiveness of a given units antitank and antipersonnel weapons at various ranges.

Regardless of their name, looking at their combat capabilities at the bottom of the screen should give you a general idea of how they'll be best employed. Hope this helps!
