Reading the scope.

Could someone explain to a sniper scope novice what it is I am supposed to be looking at on the scope when I turn the little wheel on the side...at the top of the scope are some red markers (indicating wind direction and trajectory I'm guessing) but I'm not sure what I am supposed to be doing with this info or what it is actually telling me lol...also what are all the lines on the scope for etc etc
