This is the biggest benefit of PC gaming. Mods and fan patches.
The devs dont want to make all keys unbindable, because they think everyone plays the exact same way, with wasd.
But, for lefties and right-side keyboard users, it suxorz.
Used to it though, as EVERY game is a console game nowadays, and has been for years.
That link though, should help.
I heard there was a keyboard fix, but I havent tried it yet.
I just have to remember what key is what, because I get the wrong prompts for my keys. No biggy, they still work, it just pops up the wrong key to press, like millions of other games that HARDCODE keybindings (which ANY developer should NEVER do, but they all do anyway. Its PC gaming 101 to NOT hardcode keys, yet it happens all the time).
They tried to make keys rebindable. They screwed up. It happens. Then they broke key rebinding even more with one of the later patches. Again, not intentional.
When they originally added the chromatic aberration toggle, for instance, they made a critical mistake in the cfg files which resulted in the setting being set back to "on" every time you rebooted the game. Took them several months to fix it. It's not like they didn't care, I imagine, but that game development is complicated, particularly with bad management like CIG apparently had/still have.
Like I am trying to get on top of the mine, right at the intersection, to find the ? and see if it is hostages to rescue, and I cant disarm any of the landmines at all.
Because, well, I cant find what Numpad 9 is supposed to represent, I have tried all keys on the keyboard and mouse and nothing works.
Looks like I will HAVE to try that keybindings mod now.
I would NOT recommmend the game anymore, just because of this. It was easy to get through earlier levels without using some things, but its impossible to if you dont use the default layout.
I may just try to enable default settings though to find out what Num9 correlates to.
But I should not have to, and if this would have happened earlier in my gameplay (less than 2 hours) I would have got a refund, since I cannot proceed anymore in the game.
:(
Grrr.
And yes, the rest (or 1st) of the game is still fun. But not if I cannot continue to play the rest of the campaign (I JUST got to campaign 2 I think).
I don't understand why it's showing up as Numpad 9, though. Is there anything unusual about your keyboard?
Standard keyboard with numpad on it.
Filco full keyboard.
I think its because of those 'seperate but still bound together' keys, it cant recognize what its supposed to be, so defaults to num9?
I didnt know that the keybindings were this bad, because you dont NEED those keys early in the game at all.
