I mean can't we even get food stacking to 10 or something?

they cant. otherwise the food rotting system wouldnt work.
unless they had based the rotting system on the one in Dont Starve, which does have rotting food and stacked food :) but that is neither here nor there at this point in the development cycle

I would also like food stacking to come back, I get that food rotting over time is totally realistic but my "food" inventory tab fills up super fast.

I assume part of the new system is kinda dualized...

One: stacked food might mean only the first of any food unit would likely ever go bad.
Even if it wasn't the case... stacked food where spoiling-progress was individual would mean players might sometimes lose half their food at once without knowing.

Therefore non-stacking food is the easiest way of being able to get all food unit to spoil at their own individual rate AND to be able to keep track of said spoiling.

Second: We've gone from three inventory tabs to a whopping five. I do believe food is the only one where we sometimes have to worry about running out of space... and the fact it can spoil means that you want to keep as little on you as possible or get a fridge anyway. And in that later case, you want to carry only the essential to feed yourself while everything else will remain in the fridges.

In fact, as soon as I got a fridge I basically stopped carrying anything that wasn't canned food or the like since everything else I would keep in and eat directly from my fridge(s). The buffs(especially on survival where you can stack them) you can get from the more advanced meals alone make keeping a fridge for those more than worth it(there's something to be said about light gravity effect, bonus energy/health & faster movement speed being all stacked together.

Also, Terramart Shipment Station. If you ever build anything akin to a farm, you want this ASAP. Not only is it a good way to make sure you can easily empty your inventory of fresh produces... the rate at which you'll begin to make pixels is just insanely high. I reccomend most colony builders to at least keep a minimum of one "farming outpost" purely dedicated to using what space you can for farming just for all those pixels you can make alone. Ideally link it up by teleporter station as soon as you can too, to save yourself time when traveling throughout your different colonies or needing to make Outpost trips.

I agree to Ludovsky, there is just no need for stacked food. If your inventory is full of food, you're doing something wrong because most of it will spoil, it would be better to just sell half of it.
If you have inventory problems because of seeds, store them in a crate next to your farm. If you have inventory problems because of the massive amounts of food your farming and then preparing for cooking.. well then, craft fridges and make sure that your terramart shipment station is near you.

In my opinion, it's good how it is. Or why should they change it? Inconvenience? Well, how many Inventory tabs do you have with 40 spaces each? Well, how inconvenient.

i agree with all that but they could at least stack the rotten food

rotten food does stack, however it unfortunately doesn't automatically combine into an existing stack of rotten. Which would be nice if it did that.

I don't mind the food not stacking if it is something that rots.

Food stacking works fine in Ark. Personally I find the lack of food stacking very irritating as it's very difficult to tell what food is about to do off and what is fresh at a glance. Mousing over 30 icons in my inventory every time I go home is not particularly fun. Also I very often end up having to clear space to pick up seeds and fruit for my farm, and storing up fruits to craft the higher tier foods requires lots of space.

I agree to you in terms of the mouse over. It would be nice to have a little indicator wheter those items are totally fresh or about to spoil just when you look at them. That would be something they could improve.

Speaking of food, is there a way to quickly consume something without putting it in the hotbar?

I feel like the hotbar limits you significantly, and the L and R thing makes me feel as if you don't need to put anything in there unless it's weapon related.

you can open your bag and click on it, that shows you dragging it around. just left click outside of the bag to instantly eat it ^^

Ah. Didn't think of that cause instinctively I'd figure it would drop it. Haven't played for a long time. Thanks

No worry! the only way I know of to drop something is to hold it and press Q

You need 26 slots to make 5 desert sala seems legit we need a harvester machine that has like 1000 slots to make this work. Image yourself playing don't starve and food didn't stack lol. Hungrer overall seems a bit silly when you can just tele to the convenience store and buy some food to eat lol. Few people are giong to starve really. It is more of a way to get people to eat and craft food. If I were to change it I would nerf all raw food where it hardly gives you anything, make them stackable and not rot, prepared food rots. You can already cheat the sytem by being chinese and eating rice. Whats stopping you from hording a ton of rice in your ship just in case.
