Boy, I am really stupid.
I thought I understood the basics of the game from the tutorial, and as soon as you're having your hand held I'm totally confused. I don't know why my bridges are falling apart even when I build pretty significant support for it. I don't understand at all how to use the hydraulics, as it shatters every attempt I ever have at making them work.

If someone can explain how the basics of this game in a way that make sense to me, I'm all ears. I have never felt as stupid in my whole life as trying to play this game makes me feel.

It helps to understand how gravity works. Just imagine a downward force pushing on every piece, then work off of that. For example, if you build arches, the pull of gravity will push the pieces into each other; making them stronger than if you build a straight line.

Additionally, weight distribution is a major factor; which I've found symmetrical placement of pieces does really well to ensure that you don't have any weak(er) spots in your design.

The in-game manual, accessed form either the main menu or the in-game drop-down menu, can be very useful in understanding the core mechanics of the game.
Also, the in-game gallery, or the web-based one at http://gallery.drycactus.com can help give you an idea of how other people are approaching each level.
Hope that helps!
