swordless dungeon and elemental sword question
So I've read that ice elemental items allow you to cross water by freezing the surface. In my seed (MIYUKI, my wife's name, ehehe), dungeon number 2 is a swordless dungeon with an impassible path blocked by water.

If I give my sword ice element, does that make the path permanently impassible? Or is there an item later that would allow me to cross small waterways like that?

Whenever you are in a swordless dungeon, any element that is applied to the Ghost Sword will automatically be applied to the Top Hat. So if you make the Ice Ghost Sword then it will become the Ice Ghost Hat in both the swordless dungeons.

There's also the possibility of crossing those gaps with the level 3 Blink Orb.

To piggy-back off of his question:

If you stick Ice (or, to a lesser extent, Acid) onto the Proton Shield and then go into either swordless dungeon, does that make it impossible to crack open water secrets (or, in the case of Acid, reach secrets in rooms with all access paths blocked by acid spikes) due to swordless dungeons also being friendless dungeons? If this is the case now, do you have any plans to account for this possibility in the future?

One way that I thought of just now was to make the elemental Proton Shield transfer onto the Courage Shield whenever Roq has no friend, then make it emit the appropriate Jib area burst whenever the shield disappears (whether by absorbing damage or by Roq moving or taking an action).

Huh. This is such a great point. Thanks so much for bringing this up. You are indeed correct. Any elements you have crafted with the Proton Shield will currently not be accessible in swordless dungeons.

I like your suggestion. Let me ponder it all for a bit and will come up with a decision soon.

Sorry for the old bump, but this was the only post I could find that addresses this issue.

Did you ever figure out a solution for this? Currently running into this problem now. I only have 1 item left to collect, but it’s in a swordless dungeon in the water and I have ice crafted with the proton shield... I don’t want to start over just for one item :’(

Indeed this was fixed. If you have crafted an element onto the Proton Shield, it will transfer to the Top Hat in swordless dungeons.

Oh gosh... it's still happening for me. My top hat doesn't have the ice element. I'm actually playing on Switch though, is it as updated as the Steam version?

Huh. Yes, the Switch version is just as up-to-date as Steam.

What’s your world seed? I will take a look.

Our world seed is "beebee". We were having trouble with retrieving the item in the water of dungeon 6. Thank you so much!

Huh. Just tried the Steam version with seed BEEBEE, dungeon 6 and ice crafted with the Proton Shield. When Roq throws the hat, it does indeed cause the water to turn to ice.

If when you throw the Top Hat it doesn't cause water to turn to ice, then I must be wrong about the Switch version being just as up-to-date as Steam. :( Sorry about that. Wracking my brains for a workaround but nothing comes to mind. You simply have to have an icy element to freeze that water. On Switch you cannot hack your Saves.txt, so the only way to get 100% would be to restart your run and craft ice to something other than Jib's shield.
