Read the manga till then. It's almost mandatory, because it explains stuff that's never mentioned in the game.
It's not perfect by any means but it's unique and it's exactly what I needed. It brought back some fond memories too. I loved it to pieces despite its obvious flaws.
What I don't like though, and haven't changed opinion on it:
It takes too long to get combos or Shi spells (not the mastery but diversity), which is also why you tend to stick to the same skills since the sooner you get them the more useful to you they'll seem.
Hyper attacks are blockable/avoidable, don't play an animation of the character hitting the monster if he won't take any damage after...
And unavoidable damage like some whirlwind attacks, can't parry, can't dodge, it's just frustrating.
Probably some other things that I just ignore now.
It is by a small ( ? ) indie developer so I can deal with some flaws as long as the story / characters can keep me going. I just wish there would be a price drop. :P Maybe later this year?
I already finished the game once, but there's a lot I want to go back for, I just don't want to put up with the same issues again. :D
They sent the backers (I'm assuming all backers, but I had beta level in the campaign) an email stating the patch would come next wk and I have access to it now. I'm not sure I'm allowed to post the changes, but they fixed a lot of stuff folks were complaining about, and its a pretty decent patch list.
I guess it's for backers with beta access only. :(
We'll just have to wait for the official announcement then. Thanks for the info. :)
Besides,I'm willing to help them test their patch if I can.
I finished the main story, but there's much left to discover. I want to go for the other ending, find Rosalya's doors, master all skills, complete the invincible challenge, and so on. But when I think of all the bugs I encountered... Nah, I'm waiting for the patch. :)
I liked the combat system, but I would suggest the magic attacks do more damage at lower levels, because you run out of energy for them so quickly. Yet at the level cap, the magic attacks just steamroll everything. I was also disappointed there were no post-game powerful enemies or bosses to do.
I enjoyed the story, but the English writing for it was full of spelling and grammar mistakes and whoever wrote the dialogue doesn't know enough about writing to make the characters personality shine through. The manga-style cutscenes are fine, but the majority of the dialogue takes place with the characters standing still, so you NEED a good writer to put some weight to the words to keep readers engaged.
All in all I had a lot of fun with it. The combat system is very satisfying once you've gotten used to it. Using a controller is practically a must, the game even tells you this when starting up.
