S2 was too lazy to even put up their own offical server. They instead let their customers handle that chore, and the community was left fragmented, and on privately hosted servers.
And when their loyal and loving supporters who were keeping the game going asked S2 for the code to fix the frigging game breaking bugs in the game- they were denied. And S2 did not care to support their game.
The point being- The MAIN reason this game is failing, is for the EXACT same reason
Savage 2 failed: S2 games, and their horrible attitude towards this fantastic game series, and to the customers who have supported this game series through the years.
S2 abandoned us.
S2 failed us.
S2 treated their customers, and loyal supporters like dirt.
S2 is currently laughing all the way to the bank with the money they have already made from this game.
S2 is a rotton company, and has earned every last bit of bad publicity they get.
I was more than happy to give S2 a second chance when I saw they were going to revive Savage. It sure didn't take me long to see this as the shameless money-grab that it is.
S2 has invested virtually nothing to put this game out- reused old material, less features, off the shelf Unreal engine, they don't even have to set up, and maintain a server! Yet, they have sold 50k copies for an unfinished game, for a title in which its predecessor was a functional free to play game. Shameless money grab.
Some of us gamers have seen these things too many times through the years. And this gamer will not be a brown-nose to support S2 games ever again unless they step up, and and prove me wrong. And I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only gamer ready to take a torch and a pitchfork to S2 high command.
EDIT 9/29/16
I have been blocked from posting on this forum LOL! So we have proof that S2 staff is still around.
I needed to edit my old post In order to refute the lying shill below me in post #4.
http://www.savage2.com/en/main.php <<--- proof of free to play Savage2 business model. I played this game for free. And I spent money on this game because I liked it, and I liked S2 games.
Savage 2 was, AND STILL IS, a FREE to play game. I am aware that it was not always F2play, but it has been for as long as I have known about this game (6+ years).
Having a pay wall to even try an oddball, hybrid style game is asking for a low population. The lessons from the past clearly show that Savage NEEDS a strong population. We cannont have those large 30 vs. 30 battles like we had in the past without population. And we cannot have those 30 vs. 30 battles WHEN THE NEW SAVAGE ONLY SUPPORTS 16 vs. 16 BATTLES!
This game is a fail because of S2. Any other company that made a decent effort to put this game out as a quality product, and support it would have a hit on their hands.
More time, more persons, more expenses make stats even worse.
<sad face>
Suppose release came early as money was running out, the usual culprit.
I still love the game and will play as long as at least one server populates.
I bought Savage 1 at release in store for $49. I won't go into Sav1 vs Sav2, but many Sav1 players preordered Sav2 for $29.99 to get in the early beta only to stop playing it after one game.

But I guess a lot still like and play it, I've heard it rivals poular games like Dota2 and starcraft. /s
You have made a couple significant errors in your rough calculations:
1) I assume you have the figure of 62,000 sales from Steamspy. While the numbers from that website have proven to be somewhat accurate with other titles in the past, that particular number also includes several thousand free beta keys that were given away (same app, no different ID).
2) Steam takes a somewhat significant cut of every sale.
3) While S2 Games had indeed around 20 persons on staff in 2015 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S2_Games ) they did release Strife in May 2015. So the whole staff could not have worked on Savage: Resurrection full time for 2 years.
So, how do we get like five 16-player teams together?
- start a league or something? => results on webpage
- 1 match every two weeks => cast on twitch and post videos on youtube
... ah I am dreaming, sorry.. could have been so good :)
