Then, you need to go either up or down the tree to match the flies to the stones in corresponding pattern (Try changing the season).
I just tried changing the seasons too but the tree doesn't tell me which patterns to match up down there so I'm confused, is there a guide somewhere online so I don't have to actually do this part?
edit: there is a video guide but, how the hell are you supposed to figure all of that out?
Well, it's possible to do it all by yourself. I spent an hour. There are 5 rooms in the tree trunk: -2, -1, 1, 2, 3; the room with the cicada being room 1. There are four shapes you need to input using the fireflies (note that different seasons make fireflies leave different patterns):
1) The first one is on the cicada;
2) The second one is on the wall in the room -2 (activate a "spirit stone" to get there: get to the room -1, go to the right into the next room);
3) The third one appears in the upper right corner in the room 2;
4) The last one is shown by a moving platform in the room 3 (activate a "spirit stone" to get there: get to room 2, jump on some moving platforms, move to the left to the ledge with flowers, keep moving left into the next room).
The first, third and forth shapes described are inputed in the room 2. The second is inputed in the room where it's found (in the room -2).
That was the least fun part of the gam so far, I don't consider having to hold specific instructions in your head until you make it back to the area you're supposed to use them in a proper puzzle. :l
Oh, and instead of taking screenshots, I just drew the shapes and patterns I found on a piece of paper to remember them for when I need them. To me that's easier than taking screenshots, especially with the platforms moving, as 404 described it.
