Carp Fishing Simulator

Lets talk about FishSim2
I read something on another Community (:steammocking:) about FishSim2. Some of you will have played it, as I did many years ago. I'd like to discuss it here, your memories etc of it as it's close to some of our hearts.

I remember finding it on the internet and purchasing it from the website, back in 2000 or so. Spent so many hours playing it, playing online and even created many venues and addons for it, some of which is on the retail version which I have somewhere. I remember Paingiver, Pash, Wilka, Tony Adams, Lavaboy and I'm sure there are others I'll remember given time.

CarpFishSim started as something similar to FS2 with a photo background, but I changed to fully 3D to give players the freedom to walk around the venue.

Here's some footage of that here:

My frustration on how so many of these so called sims actually miss the mark by miles and whilst crude in design the delivery of FS2 hasn't be equalled by any of its 3D counter paerts as of yet. Perhaps it is a coding thing I don't know. Fishing planet thinks the the more drag you let out the more strain goes on the reel and ultimately to beaking the rod and the reel and its a simulator!! (me thinks not). It is so annoying sitting looking from the outside. They only need to correct the perception to realism and they would be fine. But there the old chestnut goes again Non angler creating fishing sim. Never going to work. At least in fishsim you atually pretty much did what you would do in RL situ and the drag mechanism was spot on. Worse that happened was you lost your hook. I think the one big problem with the 3D versions are . If you are trying to recreate in a sim like fashion how on earth is it going to work when no fish actually live in the lake. there is no AI eco system at work. Spawning spots are not natural. Determining weather you catch or not is dependant on passing your bait through a spawn zone.
I mean it is ok if you are making an arcade like game just for fits and giggles. But I think the buyer of the game has every right to question the methodology of the games mechanics when it is calling itself a simulator. When for all intense of purpose it simulates nothing.
I loved fishsim2 for the social side as well as the fishing on your own and to think it was 20 years ago its Kudos to Jason for the vision he had and the grasp on ehat the essence of fishing was.

Yeah it was. :)

This is why I randomly spawn the fish around the lake at the start of the game and they then please themselves, however you can't see them unless I enable my debugging.

Yes fishsim 2 will be in my heart , because it is a real fishing simulation and you can make your own bait, venue etc.
And some of the most important think: the community.
The competions with them are really great and they are really friendly.
Hm anybody knows bellhard be? He has its own community site for fishsim 2 und creating venues, baits etc.
And Dangerous Derk Interactive its good to know, and you are really sympathetic thanks for your hard work to!

I was wondering about the fish in the game. I do seem to get the most runs on The Haven but i've noticed over time generally as i fish Pinetree and mostly now Ladyforest, that it does seem to be somewhat scripted in when and how often i get runs. When i first start it can take a good few mins before i get a run and then i'll start getting them quite regularly as soon as i caught the first one. Also i noticed was that when fishing for predators with deadbaits that there are lulls in between runs and it seems consistent.

Do fish automatically spawn all over the lake in all the lakes? i asked before about how many of each species is in each lake and the biggest of each one but didnt get an answer. In terms of the fishing with amount of runs i get, it seems to be the same with Pinetree and Ladyforest the only difference being that there are more species in Ladyforest. Also i've caught fish with just about any rig at any time on any surface and pretty much any bait. The only difference is that only Pike, Sturgeon, Zander and Catfish will go for deadbaits and thats it.

Played that game for many hours, easily my favorite fishing simulator. The fact that the developer loves fishsim2 means he values realism before anything else! and that is why we shall stay loyal, with no fear of this game becoming an arcadey multiplayer game like ehmm... some games on steam... thinking on downloding Fishsim2 right now actually, while waiting for the update on this game!

I loved fish sim 2! hehe I remember spending hours and hours day on it and loved downloading baits and venues, there was a site where you could get shauns lake and other bits, had 80lb+ carp, i remember spending weeks trying to get the 80+ carp from shauns lakes of life venue and finally got it only for the picture not to show lol. I submitted this to the site and they soon sorted it. I cant for the life of me remember the sites I went to for shauns lake of life or the other big carp and harder venues etc but perhaps they still exist today. My name was simply Paul on there lol. Anyway there was obviously the main addon site with the addons too which had 100s venues and baits etc.

Anyway was a very fun game, hard to play online with people sometimes as you had to enter ip address etc but it could be done and had many hours fun with lots of different people on servers. So many great venues and it was cool that you could (at the time) submit your name and bits to somebody from yet another site and they would send you a custom jpg set so that your angler was you with your name and other bits, that was cool too lol. Was certainly an addictive and amazing game at the time and I miss it alot, I might even play it again soon now hehe. Even the whatif file was awesome that you could have so that you could have a running text file going which you could check everytime you missed a bite and it would tell you what that fish was and what it weighed, although that feature often drove me insane because although I always had to check, it was horrible seeing that id just missed a huge cat or huge carp that I really wanted to catch lol

At the time a massive 10/10, great memories!

I remember fishing alot with a bellhard be for weird fish at some exotic venue downloaded, and for koi once too lol that was fun. Im sure it must be same person that I remember from years back. Those were awesome times! If its something or somebody more recent then I apologise but I deffo reconise the name or one extremely similar from many years ago on fs2!
