I think the dots might indicate that fish might be in the area and I have been catching when dropping my bait on the dots but I'm not sure if they mean anything at all to be honest. I've also used your idea where you look for terrain changes and I've been catching there too lol. I do hope Derk can shed some light on this.
Also if you stop the boat but the dots still move those are fish.
