This is crap
This game seems like it would be fun if it was in a working state. I have framerate drops character slow down on both movement and shooting. Achevements not unlocking. Does one know how to fix the framerate issues because if you say its my computer I can run Dark Souls 3 at 60fps max graphics and I don't see how this game needs more then a 2017 AAA game.

I believe the slowdowns is by design. Otherwise the game would be impossible at times.

If you're still around and want to play I can help you out. This is a Neo-Geo game so it has had perfect emulation on PC since the 90s. If you want to play online check out fightcade:

https://www.fightcade.com/

It's an emulator for Neo-Geo, Capcom and other old arcade games that supports rollback netcode. You make an account and download the application. Grab the ROM set from somewhere and you're good to go. You join the Twinkle Star Sprites lobby and challenge someone. It has built-in chat like IRC where you can set-up games and talk with other players. There is also an in-game text chat.

That is the only way to play this game properly online with another player. The netcode is GGPO. The same netcode that's starting to appear in mainstream fighting games. All of the old fighting games are on there. So you can play Street Fighter or KoF while you wait for someone to play Twinkle Star Sprites with. Every time I've idled in the lobby someone has come along quickly and challenged me. Don't be afraid to go into it if there are 0 people in chat. They're probably just playing a more active game like SF2 and will join once they see someone waiting for a game of Twinkle Star Sprites.

There was some slow downs on the original console but this port is _much_ worse. The original did not slow down that often either. Only when there was lots of crap on the screen. You can easily fix that in a Neo-Geo emulator if you want. All you have to do is overclock the virtual 68k processor. It does get harder when you eliminate the slow down in those few places but not impossible.

This game is like Metal Slug 2 and a few other Neo-Geo games. They were stressing the CPU in places so slow down was more of a limit of the hardware than the intention of the developers. I assure you if they could make it harder to get you to feed quarters into the machine they would have done it. This version of the port doesn't even give you access to the highest difficulty level without modifying the config file. Neo-Geo games set to max difficulty are always very hard.

There is nothing you can do to get this port to run like the original version or the ports for older consoles. The Dreamcast version is probably your best bet if you aren't willing to emulate it. It has overclocked CPU option built-in and is best for local play outside of PC emulation. Sega Saturn port is also very good. No idea about the original pre-steam PC version but I suspect it's trash and lacks online play. Really no reason to buy this game on Steam in the state it's in.

No problem man. I type pretty fast and try to be helpful.

Did you try Fightcade? If you're on there I'd love to play a few rounds of Twinkle Star Sprites with you. Since I replied a new version of fightcade came out. They made it look like discord and tried to monetize the application by artificially limiting how many games you can have installed. You can get around the limit by removing games from the list and installing another one. But it's crap and I hate that they were so shameless about "seeking donations" when the application is just a web page spawning an emulator.

Anyway I usually run version 1 of fightcade because it's still working and I like the older GUI. It's still very active with lots of guys playing Street Fighter and KoF games. I haven't tried to play twinkle star sprites on there in a long time. I'm itching for a game. If you're up for it let me know and we can get together.

It's pitiful that they put out this port on steam. I can't believe they sold the game in this state. This game deserves better than that.

If you'd like to play a game let me know. I've sent you a friend request.
