Not really, the game has difficulty settings you can select, credit settings you can change when you want.

All you do is just shoot, jump, and blow away the opposition. The game is simple though.

While pretty difficult, there are difficulty settings as well as choosign the amount of continues. If you should choose one of the Metal Slug games to begin with though, this is definitely the easiest.

It's an arcade game, so it's designed to take your money with tons of unfair deaths like in Ghosts 'N Goblins. But you can play with infinite continues and you respawn right away. So in that regard, it's not difficult at all to complete. It's really just plain fun.

I have to disagree about it having "tons of unfair deaths". It is very possible to play it well and not die much at all.

It's funny, I think regardless of credits, MS1 is for me the easiest MS, followed closely by X, then 2 (yup, it's harder) and then, of course 3 and that damn final mission.

That is absolutely true. The games got harder with each installment.

Then you didn't play any Metal Slug except the first one. Try Metal Slug 2 without saving the state. Even in hundred years you won't progress in later levels.

And it seems that you never watched any speedruns if you think that it's impossible to get exceptionally good at these games.

It's easy since it has unlimited continues. It's hard to complete without using a continue or without dying. However, it's by far the easiest of the entire franchise. In my experience, is the Metal Slug with the most fair difficulty.

Some parts are a little cryptic to figure it out on how to pass through without dying, but once you find out, it's relatively easy. There are almost non-existant pixel-perfect or ninja-reflex moments. As you play this game you'll find out that it's actually very predictable.
