That bad? I mean it's nowhere near the climax that MS3 was but it's still a decent game

Yes, it is bad. There are bugs, some had worst map designing (notably the Mission 3 Yeti path) and above all, a lot of recycled sprites from MS 3

It also didn't help that Nadia was just a straight-up palette swap of Eri as well. Thankfully, she became her own character once Eri returned in Metal Slug 5. 🙂

Yeah Trevor and Nadia were swaps of Marco and Fio, I still wish they were playable again tho

PS: Ralf and Clark are maybe the best character added into the serie

To be honest I wouldn't mind if they added MS5 and 6 first on Steam (I love the Ptolemaic army and the Venusian)

I've played MS4 several times with MAME, and honestly; It's mediocre but it's not that bad.
It missed the grand endings of the last three and the anti-war messages, the conspiracies, all of it; and replaced Morden with a mad scientist (ie doctor wily), but overall it was fun for the heck of it.

I could agree that even the "worst" Metal Slug game is still a nice run'n gun (By the way how's the Contra serie is going?)
Metal Slug 2/X ending wasn't really antiwar (there was a victory against the martians and a little gag at the end)
What conspiracie by the way?
And finally Amadeus was already existing as a picture made by one of Nazca's artist. I personally find nice to add other villain than Morden into the serie.

Finally I still love MS5, MS6 and MS7/XX for making the serie alive longer. Too bad there won't be any MS8 (maybe the next decade).

Metal Slug 4 is my favorite one of all. Why? Because this one is so different from the others... I remember when I have played MS4 for the first time in arcade. It was so cool! Even today.

Worst MS for many people else but the best for me.

Well it was made by a different company haha. Most of the bosses sprites are just the reused stuff from the previous games. The story is also kind of boring with the new Amadeus army. But the two machine gun addition was awesome.

1) MS4 was made by Playmore (who bought back the rest of SNK when they went bankrupt), the SNK you see now is basically Playmore rebranded but it still has some of the staff of the pre-bankrupt era so technically they can still put MS4 here legally

2) Yes, assets were recycled but think about something, even Metal Slug X was a recycling of Metal Slug 2 and MS2+X+3 recycled many elements of Metal Slug 1 (such as the soldiers and the first boss of the 5th mission for exemple)

3) Story doesn't matter in this kind of game, I mean it's an arcade game... The only game where the story is kinda important was probably Metal Slug 5 for being the last one in the timeline and MS6 for the flashback sequence after Mission 2.

3) I'm just saying that I would love if every games of the serie were on Steam (especially MS5 and 6)

We got more than half of the serie there (1 - 2 - X - 3 - XX)
