If you’re curious enough to try a Fatal Fury with lane switching, then go for Real Bout 2. The lane-switching chaos isn’t as bad as before and the gameplay is smooth. It’s the only non-Garou FF game I enjoy.
Edit: the Steam port has rollback netcode courtesy of Code Mystics, so it’s the best port. And sadly no, you can only play as jacket Terry.
Garou is a very good game, but it is way too broken once you go past beginner level.
Really, all RB2 needs is a port that is as well down as MOTW's here. It's a unique style of game you don't really see, compared to MOTW which is much more streamlined and homogenized trying to fit in with the likes of Street Fighter and King Of Fighters.
If you happen to become a fan of the series, you may wish to try Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, Snk vs Capcom and The King of Fighters too, since these games featured some of the FF cast.
Also, back in the 90s, Fatal Fury had a sister-series (prequel) called Art of Fighting.
