I never played the original before, but by comparing what I have played to the youtube videos, but I believe it is the Neo Geo version.

I doubt any NES game looked like this.

My thoughts exactly. Neo Geo games, on the other hand, I could very much see looking like this... so I'm gonna go with that

The games SNK are slowly releasing lately are based on the Neo-Geo MVS/AES releases with Dotemu handling the porting duties.

Neo Geo version is the best. I did like the NES version, but Neo Geo is the best. Too bad no Baseball Stars Professional.
Other games and fighting games from Neo Geo would be nice also. what is released is only the tip of the iceburg. SNK was right their system made Sega Genesis and SNES look like 16 - bit weenies. Too bad the system didn't get more third party support.

They're very different beasts. The NES one is fun because you get to build a team. This one is pure arcade. The NES one is much more engaging, but it's not on Steam. The Neo Geo has huge sprites and I like the fielding better.

This is the NeoGeo one. The NES ones were far superior games, and not that much behind in graphics. This one, as well as the NeoGeo and arcade ones, is just your average baseball game that has 2 player options on it. The NES version had this but also included both a partial and full simulation of League play.

In the simulations of the NES games, you acted as the GM/Owner of the team you chose or made. You could make your custom team how you liked, starting with choosing your teams core philosophy (consistent hitters, good pitching, power hitters, good defense, balance, veterans, etc.) and then you could drop players from your roster and acquire new ones or trade other teams for players even. The Partial simulation allowed you the option of actually playing the game yourself when your team's turn came up, while you could also just allow the game to play out the game as a simulation without you having to play. It was an amazing game, well worth the lower quality graphics.
