How to stop runners from stealing bases?

Runners go for it as soon as I start a pitch and I can't stop the pitching animation. By the time the ball is thrown to the base it's too late. How do I stop them?

Likewise, how do I make my own runners steal bases? Tried everything but can't figure it out.

Yeah I eventually figured out how to steal bases, but apparently you can't stop the AI from stealing. The good news is, the AI can't stop you either if you use the same strategy.
