Run?
Can we have something, such as hold SHIFT and then go faster, eating stamina obviously and being subject to encumbrance / armour.

Thus, you can do a short distance running in armour but a longer distance your stamina will be better used if you just walk.

Your speed depend on the type of terain you are (faster on cobblestone, slate etc/slower on peat marsh tile etc) and the weight you have on you, so less weight on your inventory more faster you are. No key to go faster and burn stamina like in some other games, not really sure if a mod for that but i dont hink so.

I am aware of the alterations on speed, horses and equipping horses. Sometimes, it is just annoying, the distance is too short to warrant mounting all the time and or in a cave trying to turn a horse / cart / wagon around in a tight space.

For example, you have just mined 10 tiles. Now you want to run the stone back and drop it in the BSB. This could be handy for run, stop, catch breath (while picking or dropping things off), repeat.

Technically you are /always/ running. - unless you are overburdened - it might be wiser for you to take steps to alter your base movement speed such as build roads - alternatively there is a mod for configuring player movement speeds - but it's server side and must be installed on the server admin's conditions.

Also in addition to what was mentioned above - in a more recent patch (i believe 1.6.0.0)) they added paving of flat/level reinforced tiles in caves - while I cannot confirm if it will have much effect on movement in a mine - it is possible to test. Still reinforcing floors requires a flat floor and the support beams you would use on the walls, as well as mortar and paving materials.

Also it was not mentioned before but slope has a significant effect on movement speed - if you do nothing else to your roads - flatten/level and pack the dirt.

bdew's "Movement Tweaks"

For reference I have included a link to the github download (you'll still need a mod loader for your server such as ago's) https://github.com/bdew-wurm/movemod/releases

Addittionally - I will make note of this: The reason Wagons/Carts exist is to improve the very problem of "I don't have enough weight allowance" - even a small cart being dragged by a player can support a larger number of rock shards or w/e than a human player under normal conditions. A Large Cart is almost invalidated by making the base movement speeds too high - but that's largely my opinion.

Games are often about "benefit + cost" This is why a sprint would burn stamina very quickly.

Thanks for the link.

I have always wanted the ability on WO for new players and alts to be able to hitch a cow to a small cart and then lead them (although it might be funny to see them riding it).

You know it just occured to me - Friya's Vampires and Slayers mod includes a sprint function for all players (both vampires and normal players) as a part of the mechanic - it might be worth looking into - although to get the full potential you also need Freya's Loot Tables.

Here's a link to that mod: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/152569-released-vampires-and-slayers-a-bit-of-pvp-on-pve-server-mod/

edit: I should clarify how this mod does "sprint" - it's not a keybind - but rather an action a player can choose when right-clicking on a tile - which will temporarily bestow the farwalker status effect (you can get the same status from the "Farwalker's Amulet" in the base game) for a few seconds - then it will cooldown for quite some time before you can use it again. It's not quite what you wanted but it's better than nothing (also to "initialize" the sprint you have to be not moving - because it's cancelled cast by moving during the action - which is less than 1 second but long enough that if your auto-running it will interrupt it.)

there is a server mod to "sprint" which allows you to run for a short while. It uses more stamina but is actually on a timer rather than relying on stamina to run out to slow you down again. There's also a cooldown timer to prevent you using it too often.

However, it would be nice to have a means to move faster for short periods as standard in the game. Every other game I play has a run modifier key to allow you to sprint for a while.

Also: No the cave reinforced floors do NOT allow faster movement. You move at the same speed in caves regardless of what type of floor you have.

I do love me a little necromance. Always check the date, before ya speak too late :P

Also common problem is common. I doubt itll be "fixed" anytime soon. Wurm is just one of those games where its occasional datedness is what makes it a stable, solid MMO sometimes. You can count on things staying where they are most the time. ^^
