want to craft a standalone externe staircase

i have built a house with one first floor above . on that floor, i have craft a wooden canopy to have an externe access. i wish to craft a standalone staircase on the ground extern to the house for climbing on the staircase and access directly on the first floor above without trough the house

You can only construct stairs on house tiles.
That has a floor.

For what you are wanting, perhaps you can try a ramp (bridge) from your second story door down to the ground 2-3 tiles out.

Or make a room with arched walls, that gives it a more open feel, you only need walls on bottom floor.

Might be worth your while to read the wiki http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Main_Page .. and more specifically bridges http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Bridges .. yes you can do this alone if you create an Alt for your server .. just log in with your main character and your alt at the same time

You don't need an alt according to what I read you can plant the range pole then do your survey on WU. They did it that way to allow single players to create bridges.
