However, there are bonuses for different woods on different things. Oak damages less on use. Cedar decays less.
On coal piles, cedar burns slower because of its decay ticks but it doesn't have any more output in coal. It just burns longer. Oak produces more coal because of its decay tick. I'm not sure why because cedar doesn't but... it does. Walnut gives a 10% quality bonus on the coal.
The only thing I can tell you with 100% certainty is that walnut is still giving the bonus QL to coal, tar, and ash. I still make barrels and bins and crates from cedar and I still make tools and crafting stations (looms so on) from oak. If the bonuses are no longer there, I have not noticed them missing.
Unless that player made comment is backed up with a official post I would take with a grain of salt, would make no sense for them to remove that aspect of the game?
