Location on world map?
Is there an item or mod that gives your location on the world map? While its entirely possible I've missed the answer in my search, I haven't come across anything that provides a flashy YOU ARE HERE type location marker on the map so I can figure out where, exactly, I am.

That's a MAJOR grievance I have with the game.

Using the coastline works fairly well until there is

Just like in the official Wurm servers there isn't an item - you are meant to use landmarks and your compass for navigation :)

I know your pain. I'm lost too and can't find my way back to my house. One day, i'll find it ...

Well if you have a deed then when you die you do get the option to respawn back there. Unfortunately all but your starting items will stay on your corpse.

If you are playing on your own server you could go into GM mode and by examining a tile get coordinates. They aren't the letter-number coordinates on the map though, so it might not help you a lot.

As far as mods go, the Razor's Edge server has a mod they developed for their server which shows a "live" map - a mini-map showing the area around you. It could perhaps help a little bit, but it doesn't show you where you are on the main map.

I know where I am actually. I don't know where the house is... that's my problem.
Is the resurrection stone will keep my full inventory ?

Its a really cool and immersive "feature" in my opinion. You have to navigate by exploring and knowing the lands. Building landmarks and so on

Really early on before I know a map I tend to fell trees as I go and just leave them there

This is a challenge we have grown to accept. After discovering our location using landmarks, we are quite familiar with surrounding area. and using the shape of land and water features has thus far allowed us to get a quite accurate bearing on wherever we may be exploring. But, Yes, not having a location on the map was a bit disconcerting at first.

Yes, the map is not informative. I think there are plenty of ideas for improvement such as sextant or sundial to determine the position according to the stars or sun. Or drawing a map on papyrus and add POI, when you are traveling.

It's a PITA right now trying to find your way around without some sort of map to show where you are. I'd love to explore but I can't because I just know I won't be able to find my way back home.

I need Tar to make a boat but I've gone around as far as I dare to and can't find a tar pit and can't get the ingredients to make it any other way. I'd also love to find out how to get garlic for healing ingredients because none of my foraging so far has come up with any, (plenty of rose seeds and berries and the occasional pumpkin but that's it).

As an alternate to find a tar pit, tar can be made by burning a charcoal pit. It prodcuces charcoal, tar and ash.

As for mapping, there is a mod for showing your position on a mini-map which may give you a better understanding of where you lie on the big map.

For mods the forums at wurmonline are a bit more active then here. They have seperate forum sections for wurm unlimited.

Same old story over and over again. One of the selling points of this game is precisely the fact that there is no automagical medieval GPS, and that you should use your common sense and perception to figure out where you are. This is nor Minecraft neither World of Warcraft.

With the same logic you can complain that you can't build the house with one action, or that you don't automatically create all items with QL 100. That would help too, wouldn't it?

Thank you Zen for pointing out the error of my ways.Your righteous indignation about the way I play a video game-which has no bearing on the way you experience the game-has Wurm shamed me back into the rugged, pioneer spirit that you clearly embody. I salute your service to the Internet, and your obviously superior video game values.

I'll give that mini-map mod a shot, thanks for the link. Sounds about like what I was looking for.
