Pasture size?
Quck question, Wurmpedia says you need a large pasture for cows. What qualifies as "large" for say 2 cows and a bull? Same for sheep?

I always go with 3 tiles per animal to ensure limited chance of disease.

I've heard the minimum requirement is 2 tiles per animal, but haven't done any actual testing.

And yes, it doesn't matter what type of animal.

Thank you. That will make things a little easier than I expected.

I'm currently running at 1x1 pens for each animal, though i've only tried that with sheep so far, and they occasionally pack dirt, so may have to bump it up to 2x2.

sheep seem to be especially bad at overgrazing but dropping piles of mixed grass can help. I'd make single animal pens at least 1x2 since they should have 2 tiles min per animal I guess and it makes it easier to lead them inside.

Also I wouldn't put chickens in the same pens as pigs (or probably any other animal that will eat meat) as the pigs will eat the eggs the hens lay. You will also need to put down piles of grass or vegetables or meat for the pigs (or dogs, cats, etc).

You could have a 50x50 pen and place 15 cows in it, log in the next day and still see them all diseased. If the animals herd up into a corner (as they often do) on one tile, they're more likely to get diseased. It helps to build 2x1 animal pens and place 2 animals per pen.

Animals don't 'have' to be outside, if you have a bit of carpentry, there are ways to design nicer looking 'barns', if they aren't on crops however, you would have to make sure they have seed/grass within a few tiles of them inside the pen/room.

The hitching post mod may help a bit, assuming it still allows for animal grazing (unsure at the moment) to prevent them starving, then it would be a case of line up the posts and ensure seeds/crops/grass are on the tile most of the time.

If you get a diseased animal you definitely need to separate it from the other animals, and a small pen is good for that. Make sure you keep grooming them and they should recover. If you don't separate them the disease will spread.
