I just spent quite a bit of time building a small row boat (my first boat) and now that it's done, it says it's in too poor shape to use. It's made of chestnut when I examine it. Love the game, but this is crazy. What did I do wrong? Thanks all

you have to improve the boat use a good quility log to start with usually then file and knife. activate log then right click on the boat and improve

Ideally your ships should be cedar - you only need to use a cedar item as the last piece you use to complete it. Cedar is more resistant to decay. But even if it's chestnut you can improve and repair, and when your ship is on your settlement it won't decay anyway. It is only if you don't have a settlement, or you leave it off deed for long periods of time that it would decay.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the improve thing. There's a lot to this game and it's fun, if not daunting.

Improve it to at least10 in order to use it. Remember that with damage, if it falls below 10ql, you will be unable to use it again so improving it to 10 exactly means, any damage at all will make it unusable. Try to get it to 15 at least since it's your first boat, that will get you around for a while until you can build a better boat like a sailing boat. Try to get your next boat much higher ql if you can.

Not sure if the ql makes any difference to speed, I would presume it does logically but Wurm doesn't follow normal logic.
