Tar on wood floor to reduce decay ?

I can't apply the Tar to the wood floor. Is this still used to reduce decay ? If so how do I do it ?
I have tried a few ways but nothing works.

tar on wooden planks only works for "paved" tiles with floorboards - normal wood floors don't need tarring as they are considered a part of a building.

Also protip - if the wooden planks "tile" is located INSIDE a structure - it /will/ let you tar them assuming you don't build a floor over them but it's largely unrequired as that tile suffers reduced decay in the first place from "Being indoors".

Thank you. So if I understand the floorboards are more of an outside type of floor so the tar would help reduce decay. Then the wood floor I have inside my house using the floor plan does not need the tar. So that is why I don't get that option. Thanks also for the protip.
