I think if you add as the last item in crafting something, that something can become a rare something with extra bonuses

You can also use it to imp something, it has a chance to transfer rarity only when the log is used up in the action. I always make planks or something out of it to get it down to 1kg or so.

If the log has its full 24kg of weight you can sacrifice it at an altar with 10 or more faith. This will give you 99 food, water and nutrition.

Some WU servers (if you are using a public server such as Valoria) have a mod in place where you also get a 1/100 chance of getting a rare bone if you sac a rare item (again full 24kg weight would be needed for a log).
