That's nothing like anything that ive said, you're just being hyperbolic and childish, get over it.
I just logged on and saw one server with over 50 people in it, 5 other servers with 25+.
So definitely not dead, that's plenty of people to socialize with that are actually active/online.
If you want more play Wurm Online, some of the servers have hundreds of players online.
50, 30, 30, 25, 25 are the pops currently from the most populated servers - not dead
Seems to fit pretty well with (and somewhat explain, but not justify) a lot of the attitudes expressed by both the pro-PvP and the pro-PvE people in this thread. i.e.:
"I play (PvP|PvE) and so do most people, people who like (the other way) aren't real gamers and are pointless."
The whole argument always seems silly to me whenever it comes up. I prefer a certain style of play, but if someone else prefers to play another way it has zero impact on me. Them preferring something else does not in any way, shape or form negatively impact my enjoyment of how I play- so why would I care that they prefer to play differently?
Ah, thanks for explaining that. I'm aware of this, but just didn't know it was called "false-consensus". I just think of it as people tend to project their own beliefs onto other peoples actions and preferences. I see all kinds of preferences for doing things in Wurm, mostly doesn't bother me one bit. I'm only annoyed when others actions on a server block my ability to do what I want on the server. Mostly for me, that revolves around activities related to killing mobs, especially the tougher ones, like the rift monsters. I also like to find treasure chests, now if someone blocks off access to a large part of the map where there are treasure chests, or leaves them partly looted, that is going to annoy me
The game is very grindy, relaxing as well. Its not for everyone but holds itself in high regard by people who are not impatient. It was designed to be a life in a game. Dungeon romps are for WoW and other same ol same ol type games.
Given time this game shines, but its long and slower moving.
The vanilla settings are insanity. But most PvE servers these days have custom settings and mods. I've played 10x speed and also currently playing 5x speed at Sklotopolis, and it starts you at lvl20.
At first I thought the 10x was best because the early stages of development (sub lvl 30) can be painful. But once you get the hang of the game then you get past lvl30 pretty easily, then 10x speed can blast past you and make the game too easy. So it seems that around 5x speed is a fair middle point.
Regardless, my point is that you are not stuck with vanilla settings for the grind. The choice of server matters a ton, so spend some time to choose a server, look at their settings and mods, and their community.
Re: so much time spent on basically no progress
I'm around lvl50. I can build a small mansion with about 3 hours of work. I built the second most difficult ship in about a day and now I can cruise up and down the island and travel servers. I can kill anything that comes at me on the main island. It is not that bad once you get past the first week and learning the controls.
