Noobie In need of some skill advice
Being still kind a new to the game what skills do you recommend me leveling to be self-sufficient and to build my own little deed so to speak? There are so many skills I don’t know which ones would be the most important to level so any advice would be greatly appreciate it thank you.

If you do a Google search on "20 first things to do in wurm", you will find videos and written tutorials on things to start with.

Here is one that will get you thinking:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8JzwgFfunQ

Here is some skills I found useful:
1) Making a campfire (cook some meat (the chicken or fish you get below), wrap it using your clay bowl)
2) Chopping wood. Don't just chop in one spot, you will deforest it :steamhappy:
3) Fishing - for food for a casserole
4) Digging. Level out a spot for a base or just did over and over, or dig some clay and drop it back down.
5) Mining and prospecting (you want prospecting at level 20 for sure)
6) Fighting - chop a tree with your sword will raise it. Also find a chicken and kill it (don't try much more until your skill is higher and you have a better sword).
7) Carpentry - make a small cart, this will get you started
8) Cooking - make some casseroles in your starter clay bowl
9) Farming - watch a video on this, big help

For some of these, you will do stuff over and over to level, and just through stuff out. You really want to get your skills up to where you can get iron ore at least level 20, wood level 20, body strength level 21 so you can ride a horse.

Ah right. I'm still learning, got confused on which one. Thanks.

Also I forget to mention foraging, which is an important skill to have. You simply raise it by foraging. You will need it to find all the seeds for farming, although there may be other ways to get the seeds too, but I haven't found those methods yet.

Some of this may depend on both your play style and if you are on a server with other people.

I routinely play the "offline" / SP game, so I don't really worry that much about which skills to level. Just playing the game gets me most of the skills, when I need them. So many things depend on "other" things that it is really hard to "go wrong".

For example, in my "recent" game I did my version of "survival" - drop all the starter gear except the knife, steel / flint (normally I keep the compass, also, but I was playing on a small map I had created.) This forces me to spend a lot of time foraging and botanizing, since I need key resources to progress (rock shards, iron rock and branches).

Other times I focus on a boat. But it takes a lot of other skills / materials to build a boat (and I normally try to get the small sailboat vs. the rowboat - not that many more materials, except the coth sail, but it is way more cool : ) Throw in a bit of fishing for food and I am ready for sailing up the coast or Island hoping, until I find a place I want to settle down.

Often the early game will depend on what is available in local resources. In one game there was a ton of "livestock" around my immediate start location, so my first project was fencing and rope. My starter tent was good for a while and when I got hungry, roast lamb on a stick gave me enough food for a couple of meals / days.

So my advice is just do what suits your fancy and the skills will come. Every once in a while you will need to "grind", but I tend to do that in normal play, anyway. If I have a decent amount of iron ore and a forge, I will spend some time making tools and improving them - since most of the iron tools use the same items for improving I just go from one to another until I hit a point where it seems like I am failing more than succeeding. When I start farming, I usually have several plots of land / types of crops, so I can "tend" to them all in a cycle.

Now, if you are on a server with other people, it might make sense to specialize. It takes a lot of time to skill up everything . . .
