You should also be aware that you can make use of Terry's double jump which is a great life-saver at times when you're about to fall into a pit or get hit by the enemies and to climb platforms much more quickly.
Lastly, you can glide through the air by pressing the run button while you're flying and that gives you great control to land on narrow platforms. Watch your meter though as you will stop gliding once it runs out so once in a while just drop quickly on a platform and once your meter fills up you can repeat these to sail through most parts of the game.
These 3 abilities make the game so much easier (but it was still suitably challenging after that, esp. the time trials) and fun so my suggestion is more practice with Terry esp. if you didn't realise these skills that he has. =)
