What can you do in this game?
Is it possible to do some simple missions beyond just flying - like hauling goods or something?

Yep. There's a series of tutorials to go through and a couple reasonably difficult missions to challenge you when you're ready to try them. There's also the ability to buy and sell cargo at different stations you find across the star system to turn a profit, the next update (in a week from now) will implement saving so you can start building up a big pile of cash. ;)

That said; most of the hundred hours I've played this game have been spent learning what everything does and gaining a deep understanding of how all the ship's systems work together. Makes me feel like a real spaceship pilot in a way no other game on the market has ever done. Immersive as hell.

Thanks a lot! You've convinced me to buy this game :-)

Are there also features to upgrade and repair the ship? What about combat / entering salvaging other ships.

The descripton on the store page says: "detailed ship system control, functionality, inter-dependency and damage reaction; and the ability to move freely from one ship to another, EVA, and effect repairs while in flight."

I wonder how far these mechanics are available yet.

Haven't played the latest build at all, so there might be things I've missed, but:

Not Yet Implemented, except for swapping some broken components (batteries) to functioning replacements.

Not Yet Implemented, at all. The pre-Steam build had a ship with some weaponry, but the current ship (there's only one at the moment) doesn't have any armament.

Yes, but not yet fully implemented. The number of components you can remove from ships is very limited.

That's a pretty accurate description, except that repairing is pretty barebone at best at the moment.

Naiba has made some YouTube videos that could give you some idea what is possible at the moment.

you can fly between different planets and their moons, dock with local spacestations. Docking will be quite difficult at first, as you have to do it compleately on your own using whatever info you can get from scanners and orbital information display. You can also refuel at stations

if you are bored, you could do some stupid stuff like flying into the sun, or shuting down EM shield when you are actively using the superheated plasma RCS/boosters so EXTREME heat melts all your systems and rings the alarm seconds before you will be left in a dark dead ship
also you will sometimes find yourself playing a "minigame" i call why's my TMS overheating, where you will have TMS (temperature management system) going overtemp for some reason, and you better find a way to cool it down until it causes dammage to other systems

:D I love that one!

Can I change parameter of the orbit? Inclination? leave SOI? Pressurization? EVA Activity to fix something? Power Management?

Yes to all of these!

You can (and must, really) alter your orbit to rendezvous with stations and you can certainly fly between different planets & moons.

Pressurization control is limited to pressurizing / depressurizing the airlock, and the only thing to fix on EVA at the moment is the batteries, but both of these things are planned to be expanded on.

Power management is already pretty robust, with simulated batteries, fuel cells, nuclear reactor, and multiple power busses to connect these power sources to the various ship systems.

What do you mean by "parameters of the orbit"? Use your ship's propulsion? Yes. :P

Sphere of Influence is more like an approximation. KSP uses patched conic approximation. While I can't remember if Rogue System already has a working N-body simulation, for what I've understood it is planned (if not already there). Anyway, you can travel from one planet (or its moons) to another planet (or its moons).

Ok, great, thank you for the answers! Any failures simulations while in flight? Is this game something like prepar3d or x-plane kind of game so the joystick is must to have to play it?

The best way to explain it is "DCS in space".

Joystick isn't ABSOLUTELY required, but it helps a lot. Because the buttons and knobs are activated in the virtual cockpit by clicking them with your mouse, you don't necessarily need any dashboard controllers with n+1 buttons.

A simple joystick doesn't cost that much. I bought T.16000M just for this game.
Edit: it seems after I bought my joystick Thrustmaster released "HOTAS" T.16000M model as well. HOTAS isn't required.

As far as how space "feels", how does it compare to other games like Space Engineers or Hellion?

Hellion being by far the best feeling of "space" I've gotten out of any game in over 20+ years. Space Engineers....too clunky and lack of reality with a speed limit. Does this game have an arbitrary arcade speed limit as most others do except for Hellion? Having one for gameplay purposes usually falls into the category as the devs not having a clue as to what actual physics bring to the table for gameplay. Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous both fell off the turnip truck with their arcade features....and lost many players due to the stupidity of their choice to dumb their games down. Hoping to find another dev that knows how to do space correctly.

there is no speed limit, some features rely on there being no speed limit. To transfer between planets you usually set your ship to autopilot while you yourself spend time in suspended animation. During that time the ship continuously accelerates towards the target and continuously decelerates once you have reached halfway point to ensure fastest transfer
