JSON file errors!! getting pretty sick and tired of this..
I really love this sim but the JSON file errors are really starting to kill my life.
How and why does this constantly need to happen!?!?

On a further note.. tried out the new UI system which looks nice but is absolutely buggy as hell!
Game crashes after exit every single time so I've had to revert to the old style menu system.

Its such a shame that there are so many bugs and development seems soooo slow.
If it wasn't for the games fantastic physics model then this just simply would not be worth using.
Though many aspects of this game do look and feel a number of years out of date compared to other titles out there.

I recommend raising the JSON error issue your are experiencing @ the rF2 Dscord channel (support) or even on S397 website. The devs are not active here AFAIK but you should get quick support on Discord:

I dont know about your error, but know something about PC and coding... try, eventually, to update javascript on your PC... but... i repeat: i never know about this specific error 8(

It happens a lot when you overclock your computer, you swap between the Prototype/Beta test, or you kill rFactor2 before it has finished writing the json file.

Have you tried renaming your UserData folder ( to something like UserData_BAK ) or moving it out of the rFactor 2 folder.
Then verify game files and when that is done close then restart Steam.
You could verify game files again if you wanted.
Then start rF2.

Also check no folders or files properties in rF2 are "read only".
If it is Read only there will be a tick in the box, a black square in the read only box doesn't mean it's read only.

I don't ever intentionally kill rF2 but it does crash sometimes which yes does cause the issue. My PC has been at stock clocks so I don't think overclocking has been causing the issue.

Verifying the game files doesn't seem to ever fix the issue. I have to manually go in and delete the player JSON file and sometimes some of the other JSON files before the game will run correctly. I have backed up userdata folder but sometimes copying it back over also doesn't fix the problem and I have to delete them again and let the game rewrite those files itself.

I have also tried setting the file properties to "read only" but that does absolutely nothing and the issue persists. Its just so irritating having to go through the settings every single bloody time this happens and if it was any other game I would have simply abandoned it but rF2 is definitely one of the better sims so despite this frustrating shortfall I keep using it.

So clearly the root of the issue is far deeper than just deleting files from time to time.
Aside from the fantastic physics the game in most other aspects is definitely behind the times and desperately needs a lot of work. Even the new UI isn't up to scratch, feels far from complete and is buggy as f@#$.

Guess I just gotta put up with the issues for the mean time.

You do not want any files ( json files at least ) to be set to read only.
They MUST be able to be changed by the game or else any settings you change in-game won't be saved.

The new UI is a beta, ie not finished and bugs are to be expected. Don't use it if you expect a reliable UI.

I had the same problem. It wont to start with the same *.json failure.
But for me i solve it. You have to rename controller.JSON in *:\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\player for example in *controller.JSON.
rfactor 2 generates a new file and you are back in game.
Then go back to desktop, delete new "controller.JSON" file and rename back the old file.
For me it works.

Not sure how that could actually work as the original file would still have corruption but that is an interesting approach to the problem. I will definitely try it out next time it happens.

I thought that as well but he said it was fixed so that's a big middle finger to rational thinking. :steamhappy:

hehe! I guess so! Not that I'm looking forward to the next time I experience this error but I am keen to give it a go and see if it actually works!

For those of us who haven't used AC in years could you please explain what you are talking about.

You can click along the line, say half way; instead of pressing minus (-) or plus (+) and waiting...

Go Go Go...

Just set your starting fuel amount and pitstop amounts in your setup before race starts.
Any adjusting during race is done with my buttons / toggles on wheel, but you're quite welcome to go fumbling around with a mouse, that's if I understand you correct.
