Demo graphics, vs full game graphics
Hi , thinking of buying but not sure lol have all other sim racing games , I have just played the demo , I've googled rfactor2 to get more information on gameplay and graphics and get the impression the full game plays better ? And the visuals are also better than the demo, what's your views on this thanks in advance

visuals depend on the track. demo looks just as good, but doesnt have access to the newest PBR (physically based) shaded tracks that make the game look much better. And theres only a couple of them, atleast the paid le mans and nords.

gfx is NOT why you buy RF2, the gfx are ok not more. Cars look good and clean, tracks depends, rain is a joke, night is *sigh. Compared to ACC and PC2 it is one generation behind

Last time I looked, the demo is not a good benchmark for the full game experience. There are some critical things to take on board before getting into rFactor2 though. The graphics are excellent IF you buy official Studio 397 content. There are great modded tracks and cars out there, but only S397 content guarantees the quality. You'll also need a good machine to run the sim on. You can have huge race grids, but only if you have a very good CPU. Also, despite the 2011 graphics engine that rFactor2 runs on, it requires a very good graphics card to run everything maxed out, and even then, rain, nighttime, and early morning/evening will slow things down. To a crawl sometimes!

BUT! Get it set up right and it looks amazing, drives better than any other sim on the market and...the cars. The cars are absolutely stunning. Pull the trigger man!

Demo vs Full Version,

Full Version has had a lot of updates, visually very different, and a handful of physics tweaks.

Overall, if your a casual racer, wants to turn up and just race, it wont be your cup of tea. If you like to tinker around with setups, learn about camber caster etc, you will like it.

Thanks guys for all your help and advice , well I did buy the full game and the gt 3 pack s397 to give it a try , I have a very good gfx card rtx 2080 and cpu , game ran fine with everything maxed out but I wasn't happy with the gfx in the gt3 cars compared with AC or ACC it just looked for me to dated , gfx are a very important thing for me along with the the car physics , perhaps i was doing something wrong but the cars looked horrible , I have now refunded the sim because of this and back playing ACC and AC , thanks again for your advice

Interesting. Definitely doing something wrong I'd say. I play ACC, AM2, DR2.0 and I put RF2 ahead of all of them in some respects, especially car models. As a sim, MUCH better than the other three mentioned. Here's a reason to buy:

^^This^^
Average graphics (and that's being kind) but nothing comes close to driving a Ferrari GTE on Nords, it's mind blowing.

The biggest problem with RF2 is the antiquated U.I (the beta one ain't much better) and the ridiculously long loading times.
Add to that the fact that it doesn't separate official from modded content and you have one big mess.

If you can get past these problems the driving experience is second to none, only ACC comes close :)

The latest Nurburgring track and the Ferrari 488 look absolute brilliant. The Ferrari in fact looks as good as any car in any game. But it is the stand out by far. Its interior looks so much better than every other rf2 interior. I wish they would update them all to be of the same standard using the latest material shaders.

The next best interior for me is the Aston Martin. Everything else tends to look somewhat cartoony in my book. They have shown its possible to look great and they have the material shaders to do it.. but alas.. they seemingly can't be bothered.

Maybe part of the Ferrari license was that they had to actually try and make it look good.

Just an update , I've just bought the game again after getting a refund last month , have bought spa and the the new farrari as this is the latest offerings , I must say I'm enjoying it now ! Graphics are very good and the driving experience is different from what I'm use to playing , will take some time getting use to how things work in this sim , I wont be refunding now lol
Thanks again to you guys advise etc

lol well done! With rF2, you have to get into the mindset of forgiving it for being so bad, because it's so good ;-)

The basic content is rubbish. I bought RF2 twice and returned it twice.

Only after buying DLC did I realise what kind of game it really was. Now I have almost all the content and I like this game.

What's your favourite dlc apart from the spa and Ferrari

It needs to be totally repackaged so that the basic game you buy on Steam contains core Studio 397 content (maybe all the GT3 or GTE stuff, and 4 tracks), and then you buy DLC or download mods later. The core game content is like stepping back in time to the days of Operation Falshpoint and is totally unrepresentative of just how good the game is. It's almost as if S397 doesn't have a functioning marketing and sales department!

I definitely think it depends what you want it for. I've only used Project Cars 3 and rFactor 2. Project Cars 3 is more of a game than rF2 and the graphics are better. I feel the car behaviour on rF2 is more realistic.

I occasionally have a short go with PC3, but I always return to rF2.

Nordschleife and Nurburgring. It's a game in itself. After that, Le Mans. Essential and truly historic because it actually became the official racetrack in 2020.
