Game wont detect sticks on controller *Solved*
Recently played the demo, loved it. I did manage to set up my new Logitech F310 controller/gamepad in the demo- when i first went into ingame controller settings i had no steering- other buttons did things. When i tried to rebind steering this didnt work, game wouldnt accept any activity from the stick to bind it and then after more fiddling it finally let me bind left and right with the stick not sure how. The controller is detected and active by the computer as i could bring up big picture, works fine with other driving games. In the pits/garage i could use the throttle with right trigger.

Anyway i saved my tweaked configuration in the demo and I thought that the full game would find my configuration in the list of configurations from the demo (some games saves such files in appdata/ or documents etc) but no doesnt seem to be the case. So i am having mess about again trying to bind the controller to left and right- but the game just wont detect the stick being moved! grrr. I for the life of me dont know what i did to get it to in the demo version. If i click on Detect Device it chooses the Xbox 360 controller which it should because the logitech is exactly like one. The gamepad is active because i can use the throttle.

Is there a trick to getting the game to detect my stick when im binding it? it did eventually get its act together in the demo and then i had no issues.

I plan to get a wheel in the future when i can afford one- but using a gamepad is miles better than a keyboard as i was able to get some fast laps in the demo with the controller. I didnt uninstall the demo, so is there somewhere my prev config for controller i saved could be moved into the full-game version config folder or whatever?

I managed to find where the saved controller settings are for the demo and ive moved it into the Controller folder in rFactor2 and loaded it- but the darn left and right still doesnt work! the controller is fine. Any advice? Where do i go to get support from the devs? I think with the demo, on the two occassions i played it i had to get the controller working again by rebinding the left and right, so it seems not to be saving it correctly or something. But now when i try to rebind it just wont register stick movement.

There is a readme file that talks about a controller.ini cant find this file in the game's Steam folders. Where is this saved? maybe i can remap it this way?

What we need to solve it is how do you connect devices.
and what you need is how people connect their devices.

Daza's telling is "I tried all I can, but didn't detct my device".
He tried rebinding, copying demo setting file to RF2 folder.

and what I said is "too long". my eyes twinkling...

My controller is connected to a usb port in the back of my pc. I have no issues with it Dirt 4. Its partly working in rFactor2 but i cannot bind anything to the right stick or d-pad- nothing happens when i it says press a key or controller to bind...

My thought, rFactor2 still has old detection of controller.

You've tried "mode" button?
This may switches DPad an analog stick control.

Thanks for that suggestion Tsurugin yeah i just tried that actually after looking on the logitech support site, with that mode active i was able to bind keys to the d-pad but then the d-pad took over the steering from the stick, so i turned it off. Its weird, in the demo i managed to have right stick working for look left/right and behind. Currently I do have look behind working with the L stick where is my steering so that will have to do- use it on the straights anyway. The controller A, B, X and Y i can map, the bumpers still have their defaults and work i think.

If the game uses the old style of detection i implore the Devs to update it, i know they are working on the next update and ironing out the dx11 at the moment, but it would be great if they squeezed in some time to update the controller detection. It really helps to sell the game if it works well in the demo- HAD i given up easily in trying to get my controller working or it continued to dog me i probably wouldnt of brought the game. It also doesnt give me a lot of confidence if i buy a wheel that i might have problems setting that up too.( I will be asking ppl about the one i intend to buy namely a budget one called 'Thrustmaster Ferrari Racing Wheel Red Legend' in another thread to see if it does run fine with this game).

I'm just glad i can use the controller in basic form- but would be nice to bind options to the dpad and right-stick too.

Hi, Im not sure if I've read this correctly but...

1.You have a Logitech F310 Controller
2.You have told rFactor2 you have a XBOX controller, and the F310 doesn't work properly.

Why havent you openned the controller setup menu, press load button at the bottom of the button binding list, and select Logitech F310 instead of Xbox controller?

Thanks for your reply Badwallflower. I tried that as well, as i cycled through all the presettings it has. I think i mentioned the xbox controller because that is what the detection came up with when i click on detect controller.

*Update* I solved the problem. In Big Picture mode in steam where you configure your controller, i went back in there and i had Xbox controller configuration selected. So i unselected that and choose "Generic Gamepad Configuration Support" instead and this fixed the problem. I had assumed the Logitech F310 was practically an Xbox controller clone and thought nothing of it especially it worked fine on Dirt 4.

Only one lingering issue- when i tried to map look up and down to right stick up and down- it wouldnt bind. But i could bind look left and right - to the right stick as well as bind the LCD display to the D-pad with no probs. So im very happy i got this working! So this thread might be handy for other new players who run into this problem.

Wow... this may be useful.
Somebody praise him and say "Welcome to rFactor2!".

Had the same problems all over again today. However doing some more google searching i found someone suggesting running the game in compatiability mode run as Win 7 (i have win 10) and this seems to have fixed it. Also i have turned the controller mode on (which didnt seem to help before because it would cause my steering to work through the dpad). So im guess running the game as Win 7 help a good measure. I closed the game and run it again a few times to really test this.

Will give it another whirl tomorrow and make sure its still the same. So i think i have finally put this issue to rest.
