rFactor 2

rFactor 2

Unable to assign controls
I click on a control, it waits for my input, I press any button on my wheel, then rF2 doesn't do anything. Device is Logitech G29 (Fanatec fanboy, don't worry, my 6 1/2 year old Porsche wheel has just worn out too much, still works just loose.)

rF2 detects I'm using a G29 but it only accepts keyboard input. I had the same problem with the demo. People were always like "OH DUDE THE DEMO IS BROKEN AND LIKE... SO OUTDATED BRO, GET THE FULL VERSION!" So I did, and so far it's just as buggy..

Simply restarting the game worked but that's not a good sign. The behavior of the game shouldn't change upon every launch, this was the exact issue I had with the demo. 50% of the time, the wheel worked, and every restart would make rFactor 2 behave differently.

Onto the next problem: Developer mode doesn't find my wheel. I click "detect" and it doesn't see the G29. Nothing on the wheel works at all, ever, in dev mode.

10 minutes after buying it, I'm already considering a refund.. Getting a G29 (which has beautiful driver support and is one of the most recognizable wheels on the market for games) is a pain to get working with rF2.. How exactly does rF2 receive so much praise?

Hmmm, I know this is no help at all, but my G29 works every time with rFactor 2. Do you have the Logitech profiler installed, and if so, what version? I used to have the old Logitech Profiler(which I had to use for an old joystick) and the new one (for the G29), and I recall that Logitech said that if you installed them in the order old then new, things would be fine, but it caused no end of problems, so I uninstalled the old one and it works better now.

I've seen Logitech users say they need to launch the wheel profiler before they launch the game.

It was already launched, it starts when you log in. CarDr, are you using TM or Fanatec?

I just had this problem as well. Try going to Steam contoller settings and unchecking the box for generic controller support. Worked for me. Good luck!

OT: Are you using a G29? Got any force feedback settings? It feels terrible. Going over curbs feels awesome, very detailed vibrations in the curbs..

The issue is not the game. The issue is on Logitech's end and they simply are not patching their software code to fix this. Only the Logitech G29 has been reported constantly with this issue.
Ah, you're biased. That's why you don't like me. Allow me to turn the tables; only with rF2 do I have this problem.

It still is a problem with the Logitech drivers NOT rF2. There is no bias in this statement, only facts.

If you frequent the rF2 Discord channel or the Studio 397 forums you would see the posts on this subject.
I really shouldn't be feeding the troll and I'm probably going to regret this.. How can you prove that because this one title has problems with the G29, that it is Logitech's fault if it works fine in everything else? You're assuming that rF2 has 100% flawless code, so it must be Logitech's fault, which is bias.

Here's the thing...

When Logitech released the "new" wheel range, every sim title had issues with them. Everyone has reworked the Logitech driver integration to support both old and new Logitech wheels. Except apparently S397. It took Reiza a long time to do it but eventually even they did.

NTU, I'll find a post you can try but it involves editing files manually and I don't even know if it will work in this instance. It was a way of solving problems with wheels rF2 didn't have "profiles" for by essentially creating one with all the hardware information it requires.

See how much of that can benefit you. I don't know if they ever created a config for the G29, if not, it might help you create your own.

Old racing sims and games have no trouble with the G29. DiRT 2, RBR, old NFS games from over 10 years ago, GTR 2, GTR Evo/Race 07, etc etc.. I appreciate you trying to help but if what you're saying is true, classic games wouldn't work.

Old games work fine because they don't use the auto setting for rotation. If you were driving a car that only had 360 rotation in those titles and wanted your wheel to match correctly, you had to manually set it in the drivers. It's this area that Logitech mucked about with and consequently caused a lot of probelms in the early days, weeks and months after their release.

My problem with rF2 has nothing to do with steering rotation :/

Not yet it doesn't. :steammocking:
