Tried to start with Task Manager open. rfactor still does not start and nothing shows up in Task Manager.

Last thing that comes to my mind and few days ago saved me is Uninstall, backup registry and clean (mean let decide program what is not needed or wrong there) registy. Probably some interference with demo can be still here. If nobody has problem, doesnt mean some cant have it. I used for this glary utilities but not sure how they are safe, but should be.Probably any program can be good same way, but just have experience with this one so mentioned it.

I've uninstalled, cleaned registry, and installed twice. No difference, game still does not start.

Next test after this, is to run rFConfig.exe. Go into the main rFactor 2 folder, and navigate to Bin32 Folder. Create a shortcut to rFConfig.exe and put it on your desktop. Now right mouse click on the new shortcut, and go into properties. in the START IN section of the properties, delete the \Bin32 part of the path and APPLY changes. Double click on the shortcut, and it will generate the missing ini files.

After running rFConfig.exe, we can try bypassing the Launcher by creating a shortcut in the same way as rFConfig.exe. Go to the rFactor2.exe in the Bin64 folder, create the shortcut and place it on the desktop, and remove the \Bin64 from the START IN section in properties as before. This time before saving the properties, I would like you to go to the TARGET section above and at the very end of the path after ", type +trace=3 and then press the APPLY button and exit.

Now double click the shortcut, and see what the trace file says in the logs folder.

Success!!! Thank you Badwallflower!

I did what you said and now the game launches using the modified launcher shortcut from the Bin64 folder (still doesn't launch from the original rFactor2 icon).

So now a very dumb question, the game launches but there are no cars, no tracks, no practice, etc. so I can't actually play the game and it doesn't tell me what to do. I assume it has something to do with subscriptions, but I subscribed/installed two cars and two tracks previously.

Every other driving sim I have has a selection of cars and tracks to choose from, races or practice sessions, etc. This one has nothing, not even a beginner car.

After all the help everyone has provided, would you please fill me in on the next steps to actually drive something now that the game is running finally?

As mentione several times. Visit workshop and subscribe for what you want. Next time you will run rF2 it will be installed.
Glad dporter2 help helps

Hi dporter2, this wasn't a fix, it was just some tests to tell me where the problem is. So obviously the Launcher is at fault.

The only work around at the moment, to install mods into rFactor2 without the Launcher, is to copy the rFcmp files from the 365960 folder to the packages folder. (You can also download rFcmp files directly from websites, and install them the same way)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\365960

Once you have placed the rFcmp files into the packages folder, Use the ModMgr.exe in the Bin32 folder. No need for shortcuts this time, just double click. Once the ModMgr.exe has started, you may have to configure it to see the rFcmp files. At the top left of the window, 3rd row down of text, you see the word viewing followed by two tick boxes. make sure both of those are ticked. Now at the bottom left, it will be asking for a WORKING DIR and PACKAGES DIR.

WORKING DIR = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\rFactor 2
PACKAGES DIR = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\packages

Now that the ModMgr is configured, you can now highlight the mods you want to install in the middle window and click install.

When you go into rFactor 2, if you dont see any cars and tracks, click on race events on the top right handside, and select All CARS & TRACKS, and press ok/accept.

Still need to fix the Launcher. Only thing I can think of at this time, stopping the Launcher, is RivaTuner, or 1 of the 4 required C++ runtimes hasn't installed properly (Requires both 32 and 64bit).

I copied the rfcmp files into the packages folder (just the files, not the folder they're in, correct?). I opened ModMgr and ticked both boxes. At the bottom right it has Working Dir and Packages Dir with the paths you mentioned above already there, except they both include \Bin32\ in the path. It doesn't let me change them.

There are no mods to highlight or install.

Also, I don't have Riva Tuner and I ran all 4 C++ files.

Sorry, I forgot to say, to change the paths, press the B button.

WORKING DIR = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\rFactor 2
PACKAGES DIR = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\packages

must be those paths, no Bin32.
:steamfacepalm:

Ok, looks like it's working now. Thanks Badwallflower, you know more than the developer about their own game!

Unfortunetly this has not worked for me. I click on single player on the launcher and the launcher comes back in a split second, no splash screen or anything. I have uninstalled this game multiple times and still doesn't fix it

Your problem is caused by your overclocking, nothing to do with rFactor 2.

nothing is overclocked, no 3rd party plugins and game still doesn't launch. I have tried everything. Contacted support adn they went through a few steps with me but didn't fix it. They are unsure to why it's not working. They said it's an unknown issue.

also how would you know if anything is overclocked. Do you know my PC specs, no
CarDr Nov 7, 2018 @ 2:33am
Your thread was slightly hijack with a similar issue, but you have to admit he was offering enough detail for others to work with. Let’s start with a recap of your problem, adding a line from your other thread. Correct me if I have anything wrong.

Game doesn't display correctly it's all squished and than it doesn't launch after closing it down

it used to work a few weeks ago when i last played it
rFactor doesn't launch when I click single player. Nothing happens at all.
It doesn't matter what resolution I set it to. Same thing happens

I think you have;
Verified the game files, reinstalled the game, no plugins, no beta, no overclocks. Twice you said 397 tech support had you try somethings but you do not mention what.
............................

So you can start the game from steam, get to the launcher menu where you can change settings, make car and track selections as normal. You select single play and……
Distorted screen- was that only one time, even after rebooting your PC?
Screen hangs on menu or does it close on its own?
Changing car/ track and force 32 bit make a difference? Still subscribed to work shop items? Crash logs?
