rF2 is not only the newest driving sim I own but I've only had it a short time.
However I am pleased with rF2, my own rF2 directory (dated myself to DOS days) is swelling past 50G.
Yes DLC is greeat and I do enjoy and applaud the modders.
24H tracks and etc make this my favorite sim.
rF1, GTlegends, GTEvo, GTR2 n P&G came before rF2 so take that into account.
I have to say now that rF2 runs here for the last many days if I am in steam I am racing or tuning in rF2
FWIW
The Sim is fun for me n F1.
I am NOT a fan of Fnone since Indy vs. P form tire fiasco....
this is not the age of Gurney, Stewart, Hill and Clark but a pale ghost of what was.
GT and endurance racing suit me... And the Indy 500 225 mph for 2 1/2 hours shames all others. 210 for a split second fades in contrast. Clark was the best I ever saw @ IMS.
I just had an update to some of my workshop content
of 12.9gb, lol :)
Roll on 1st May for dx11 and vr :)
Also there is a Log Analyzer that is very very informative, and it allows you to create Championship in there as well. So in rFactor you need to set things more to your liking (download some cars + tracks + Log Analyzer) Get used to it, but driving it instantly great.
Only thing about AC is in fact the poor AI and less detailed ffb - the physics and handling despite Assoc babble is quite believable (the issue that assoc goes on about about fudged numbers was fixed yonks ago by kunos) - to a normal driver. Fact they get real numbers from manufacturers such as porsche, give them more credibility then rf2 guess work numbers. (see dw12 debacle). Also at least other titles such as AC and AMS all the cars are running the same tyre model - unlike rf2 mess of old and new tyre physics.
For the handful of rf2 cars that actually feel like real cars, realroad, night and day lighting and it race options etc, the ffb and the AI are worth the short change "feeling" you get from this title.
Assetto, Project Cars, F1, Dirt, Forza, and Gran Turismo are all pretty - and fun - but they don't have the sense of authenticity that I personally look for, which is very subjective of-course. We all experience things differently.
To me Assetto is more of a mainstream game, aimed at a wider audience. It's a game not just for petrol-heads and Television racing fans, but also for gamers who usually don't play racing games. A stance very similar to a Codemasters game.
rFactor 2 on the other hand has it's main appeal among fans of actual television racing, who know what WEC and Blancpain means for example.
I completely disagree about Assetto, it's far more hard core sim compared to the others you've listed :)
1. Varying level of content quality, the consistency and level of quality just does not match Assetto Corsa. Amusingly some of the best track content is just the AC laser scans converted to RF2. The good cars in RF2 are fantastic, but honestly I think there is some ♥♥♥♥♥ even among the official content. It's like amatuer hour, hit and miss.
2. Loading times, tracks take a long time to load especially on the first load. I mean we are talking maybe 2-4x as long as AC to load a track.
3. Online - It's good functionally but there just aren't enough people playing Rfactor 2, you're gonna have to find a league or something, Racedepartment used to be a good place to start. This may have changed (i'm not sure) but you only got limited period online access with the game (I pre-ordered during beta so I got like 2 years) and then you had to pay for online separate to the game.
Edit.
I recommend you do not take to much attention to Associator, he's well known in sim racing circles for simply finding any and all threads/discussions about Rfactor 2 and using it to promote RF2 superiority over other sims. I don't know if he works for ISI or owns stock in the company or what, but when you see the same name all over the internet exclusively posting about how bad other sims are compared to Rfactor 2, you know it's probably best to turn a blind eye.
