Why is Blender available on Steam?
why is Blender on Steam? It's free..open source..can't think of any reason why.

Because you are bored and decided to?

the community it has and people interested in gaming and game design can support each other. Steam is a simple way to communicate with others who enjoy similar things like games maybe the blender developers decided to try it out.

I like that we have a choice between paid and free applications. Hope they bring more professional quality free applications to steam. Paid applications come here for exposure to millions of people and the free ones could be the same reason? I don't know but I like it a lot. I have the money to buy what I want, but young people wanting to mod games have a real program right here for free and on the steam community where they like to hang out.

kinda hope it gets a workshop to share 3D models, animations, and whatever anyone is willing to share

I think bleender is really good as 3d modeling not in my hands but is really good tool to use and plus people makeing tf2 items or something else... why pay for a software and find that you wast so much money on that! I forgot a lot of indie dev's use this!

Ease of access. It's for the lazy and those who want convenience.

It probably will get the workshop, so people can sell their models and give steam a share of the price with the new system they set in place.

Currently you can go to blenderswap for sharing models...As far as selling things like this how about steam's workshop NOT be the medium...consodering Valve takes 75 percent! Seriously... And that new paid mod ♥♥♥♥ thats in place for Skyrim is the most horrible thing I've ever seen done in the gaming industry ever.

  • Auto updates on Steam mean it will keep Blender up to date much more conveniently. Currently you have to download the latest version of Blender and install it every time you want to update.
  • Steam records the amount of time you spend in the app. I actually really like that feature.
  • Valve does not take 75%, they take 30% and the publisher decides how much they will take and leave for the modder. So for Skyrim Valve took 30, Bethesda took 45, modder left with 25. This is entirely up to the publisher to decide how much the modder is left with not Valve.
  • Steam workshop is a great medium. Users can still choose to release their item for free just like Blendswap or sell it on the workshop if they want. The user can also take their items and sell it anywhere else if they like, Valve won't stop you from selling your 3d Models anywhere else.

It's just really conveniant, plus you can then use the Steam community for aid and people can write each other steam guides to do certain things in the program. I don't see anything wrong with Blender being put on Steam.
