Blender can't open .obj files
I downloaded a model from models-resource.com. It came in a zipped folder, so I extracted it. The folder contained an .obj file, a .mtl file, a .dae file, and a .png file called model.nut0. When I went to open the folder in Blender, it showed nothing inside it. Could someone help me?

Blender like any other app can only open files that it recognogize as "native", ex: photoshop opens .ps files.... by the way, the files of blender end with .blend.

What you are trying to achieve is import you could try file -> import files.

If you still don't see it, go to User preferences... -> addons -> import/export and enagle obj or fbx or any other needed.

G'day Tonda Gossa.

Like @Tyoc213 said, go to "File" in the upper left corner, then look for "User Preferences...". There you will find "Add-ons" among the seven dark buttons above. To your left look for "Import-Export" and make sure these Add-ons are enabled (Just tick that small box to the right)

Enable: "Autodesk 3DS format", "FBX format", "STL format" and "Wavefront OBJ format".

This will allow you to import-export, 3DS, FBX, STL and OBJ files.

Now, all you have to do is go to "File" > "Import" and choose the file you want. You should also check out " http://www.blendswap.com/ ", they have tons of free models and animations you can learn from.

Good luck mate.

It worked! However, there is still a cube that I don't know how to get rid of, and the model dosen't have a texture.

The cube is the standard object in an "empty" blender file. Image photoshop files would always start with 1 layer with mickey mouse on it. I don't know why, but blender always has it like this. Go to the upper right menu where you see your different objects/layers, right click the cube and delete. Importing textures and all that ... I taught myself all of that in over a week with a lot of videos watched on youtube...you won't get too far with asking questions if you don't even know the basics. Watch 10-20 tutorials first.

First learn what UV-unwrapping is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8Dxh4QOuqE

Then paint your texture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvun-AlxUFQ

Don't worry, the textures that came in the folder show up when I render the model.

It is a default scene that you can change (and get it back as reset) you can change for example to default to render cycles, number of steps, emulate 3 buttons and numpad and so on for new files, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6hdFWBkZ8w also you can export or load settings if you don't want to save as default AFAIK.
